Kes, AP is NOT American - he was born and raised in England. He also knows several European languages fluently (like Bond would) - most people thought he was a "Scot". Incidently - I read an interview with Connery who thought AP was a good choice for Bond - I'll see if I can find it online.[...]
BTW - I never suggested that any of Jackman's movies were stinkers. Nor did I suggest that his own performances in the movies weren't good. I like the guy as an actor and he seems to be a decent human being from the interviews I've seen. Plus - he is handsome.
His filmogrpahy is relatively small -
X-Men (2000)
Someone Like You (2001 - with Ashley Judd - not a great movie)
Swordfish (2001 - with John Travolta + Halle Berry)
Kate & Leopold (2001 - with Meg Ryan)
X-2 (2003)
Van Helsing (2004)Maybe we should reconsider his "commercial" status??? 😄
Perhaps what it all comes down to is "can he do justice to the Bond persona?" - regardless of how well known he is in any given part of the world.
My bad, thought he was american. You dont have to know lots of languages to play Bond. They have great speech coaches (sp) 😉
I dont like AP and I think he has what it takes to play Bond. I think both HJ and Clive Owen do thou.
Who was Brosnans pick?
Originally posted by EllaMarieIndeed great show. But Brosnan was destined to play Bond. He was offered the part while he was still doing Remington Steel. But couldnt get out so he had to turn it down.
Remington Steele was a detective series that ran for SIX YEARS on North American TV and I think it ran in the UK later on (??). Many of the American TV programs start showing in the UK and other places 1-2 years after the original runs here and becomes successful. The premise was that the lead female character ' "Laura Holt" wanted to be a private detective but she couldn't convince sexist clients that she was good enough for the job, so she invented a boss named "Remington Steele" that no one ever saw. Then this tall, dark, gorgeous British guy shows up calling himself Remington Steele, much to her dismay, and convinced the clients that he was the boss. Steele was a huge movie fan and quoted many titles of movies, which he used to help him solve cases. The show had a lot of humor, romance, mystery, and drama mixed together.
Yes, Kes, I remember very well about Brosnan + Remington Steele. He was offered the role JUST before the TV Studio decided to go ahead with the last (sixth) season. We'd already had years to admire him as Steele.
My older sister "adored" Roger Moore as Bond but ever since the FIRST season of "Remington Steele" I constantly bugged her that this Pierce Brosnan guy would be a better Bond than Roger Moore - anyday.... and lo and behold... PB becoming Bond was a dream come true for me!! 😄
BTW - my sister now prefers Brosnan's Bond to Moore's. 💃
The choice between Clive Owen and Hugh Jackman is a tough one since only now are we North Americans getting to see Clive Owen (Beyond Borders and soon King Arthur) and... HJ's Van Helsing is his first real "Starring" role. In Kate + Leopold, Meg Ryan go top billing (at least over here).
I don't find Clive Owen to be very good looking.... BUT every commercial or ad I've seen him in there is something about him that does "command" your attention toward him...
If Hugh Jackman is capable of the "Clint Eastwood" coldness - then he'd be great too! 😉
It's too hard to choose! 😱
