The sec I read the first post on this I intended to say just the same.
And it will be the day when pigs fly over a frozen hell before I give maggots a chance to invade my pizza before I devour it.
But for all you fans of cooking with larva's and such, some tasty ideas!
First of all, don't bother with your average house maggots, since they carry way to many germs and aren't that nutricious anyhow.
But the fascinating insect world has many other yummy crawlers to offer:
Worms; get yourself a good handful of these slick dudes, let them be for a few hours in a bucket (so they can crap and become tastier) and then wash em good to get rid of the sand.
Heat up some olive-oil at medium heat in a pan, add garlic and fresh pepper to your taste and toss in the worms. Stir it up for a few minutes, then pour in some ketjap-sauce and give it a final stir.
Nice with rice and lettuce.
Termites; fry them in a little butter at low heat for a few minutes, then add some brown sugar, shake pan around for a few secs and voila.
Interesting alternative for popcorn.
Grasshoppers; just bake these like french fries, but just briefly. Shake the basket good to get rid of most of the limbs when done.
Eat them like shrimp: don't bother with the heads.
More of a dipping snack, nice with cheese or chocolate sauce.
For your real maggots you'll need the tropic larva's, from the larger species of ants and termites. Fold these in tinfoil along with spices and vegetables you like and put the packages on a grill for like 5 minutes.
