It matters not anyway. We don't know if it was an avatar or not. As DS clearly says he can never be defeated on the physical plain. We also know that DS wouldn't ever even need to use the OE on superman. It's pretty obvious all of the new Gods have a serious amp. At least the evil ones. DS would pwn Superman with great ease. Hell, Kalibak could probably do it now a days. DS wins against Odin. I've never seen Odin create any alternate universes.
