He is talking on your behalf. Trust me, you don't want to do this.

I was.

I'll do it though. Why not?

Surfer doesn't have much of a chance in a physical fight, but he's tough enough to endure initial onslaughts and realize he's not going to win if he lets Superman stay on top of him the whole fight.

His blasting power isn't quite as strong as hyped but by no means weak, and once he starts analyzing Superman he'll know what buttons to press on him to bring him down.

Superman can analyze Surfer as well for what to do to bring him down.

Surfer's energy blasts are non factors. Superman can either tank them straight up or just stalemate with his HV.

Superman is straight up physically superior in every way and can tank Surfer's main type of attack. Surfer can't do that.

not picking a side specifically here, but how would superman deal with surfer attacking him on the astral plane? or soul manipulation?

Superman has overpowered better telepaths on Astral plane?

Soul manipulation? When did Surfer do that? Not to mention Superman has straight up overpowered Neron who had expelled his soul from his body and took control of his body again.

If any versatility from Surfer is going to matter its energy manipulation.

Surfer is really powerful. And versatile. I find it hard to pick against him.

Boy scouts defends the weak against bullies and such.

Surfer spends his time admiring human surfers and exploring the cosmos.

Nah, Surfer is one of the most noble characters out there.

I hate the retcon Starlin did to Surfer's character. My ideal version is what King Kirby did. Surfer was majestic for a lack of a better term, mysterious and a tragic figure.

Don't get me started on what Ron Marz and Slott did with the character.

Yeah but Superman analyzing Surfer would look like "he's weak to physical damage, I better press the attack" which is indeed his weakest area. It's fair to think that he could at least survive an initial confrontation with Superman if he isn't launching Doomsday busters, long enough to see that his opponent is too much for him if he's in a solid state. So then he can start phasing in an out as needed: http://i.imgur.com/GBvVWJF.jpg

Yeah, Superman likely wouldn't be too bothered by them, but if he switched it to a red radiation blast , after getting a feel for his physiology with previous failed blasts, he'd start producing blasts that hurt an damage him.

He won't win a direct confrontation, but if he dips into his versatility he has tools that will let him even it up.

Superman doesn't needs to launch Doomsday busters to ko Surfer. It's more likely that Superman notices Surfer's lack of combat speed and blitzes him down.

And TBH Superman has used phasing more than Surfer in combat against Mongul and Doomsday.

This is a theoretical scenario as Surfer has never done so. But since we are going by that route, Superman notices Surfer needs starlight to function and cuts off his connection to it.

He won't win a direct confrontation, but if he dips into his versatility he has tools that will let him even it up.

What if Superman goes into versatility mode then?

You probably didn't understand what either writer intended for the character based off your hilarious comprehension skills.

Surfer wins this every single time. He IS Superman kryptonite.
