Superman survives an attack involving Atomization and deadly Vodoo magic.
A squadron of Thanagarians attacked Metropolis, Baron Sunday decides to strike Superman with Vodoo, thinking that while distracted Superman will be less prepared for the attack.
Superman routes the Thanagarian squadron (close to 100 of them)
And before they leave one of the Thanagarians decides to use and cannon that could atomize a small scout ship.
While He survived the DOUBLE DEADLY apparently this caused him to change into his gangbuster persona

Superman reappears as Gangbuster after getting some information on Baron Sunday's location and decides to confront him.
Baron Sunday's magic fails to contains Superman stating that He had been able to hold six men helpless with the same magical sphere
Superman then finds the Vodoo doll and while the doll still has the pin on its head, Superman decides to crush the doll. Superman's head is buzzing apparently as a result of the needle in the head or the thanagarian cannon, but later on is revealed that this head buzzing was actually Olsen's watch.
And just in case, some might wonder, Baron Sunday's Vodoo is in fact lethal
Superman defeats Mageddon, the primordial annihilator via absorbing its anti-sun core which negates his own energy and is complely fine while overcoming its telepathy.
Just how powerful was Mageddon? It was powerful enough to force the angels of Pax-Dei to create a new universe because it was going to destroy this universe.
The whole of humanity gets the powers of superman.
Mageddon was killing thousands of these supermen with each blast and would've killed whole of humanity in minutes according to batman.

Also just recently he pulled a Superman returns and lifted a chunk of the city into space after getting exposed to red sun radiation. It showed how vast his solar reserves are. Superman need only amp up the intensity and the air craft carrier will eventually be reduced to vapor.
What's to stop Superman from amping the intensity of not only his eye's ability to emit radiation, but his body's ability to absorb it? Power increase.
