Yeah, off topic......of DRUGS!

So why do those who believe addicts are weak/strong, believe so?

Stop it you moronic outcast.

As I had posted, there are lots of documented examples of people using drugs and quitting effortlessly.

What does this fact add to the debate?

Do the replies above of 'No', with no explication, suggest that this is an issue where there is a lot of moral pressure, or skewed perspectives?

I think a lot of people, as seen, cringe at the word alone. There's a huge amount of moral pressure that suggest all illegal drugs are the devil and should never be touched.

I think a parent would be more devestated if their child was smoking marijuana rather than smoking tobacco, despite the latter being worse. If only for the illegal factor.

'Drug addicts: weak?' being the issue here, not drugs in general.

I don't think drug addicts are weak for becoming drug addicts.

Said this on first page.

I'd like to see anyone break an addiction to heroin. (Edit button is there for a reason 😉

It is my understanding that it is a process that could kill a person.

I don't think it's fair to call all drug addicts "weak".

I just think certain people are born with addictive personalities and sometimes they can't help what they do.

How do you account for the difference in the responses to taking them? Many people can use drugs and stop easily.

Yeah, that Wonder Woman. I can't stop looking.

This statement precisely sums up what I am saying.

Doom, Doom, Doom

I think some people are aware of their addictive personalities and steer clear of any drugs they enjoy but might become addicted to. Save becoming dependant. Some people might just know how to differentiate between recreation and addiction, where to apprehend it if they feel it's getting too far etc.

I think stopping it depends on many things really. Obviously support can help. Compassion rather than condemnation as Hicks said.

Though I do believe self-willpower is a huge part of why some people can drop it and some can't. Purely because you see it in diets and everything. People who truly want to do it, defy the urges and achieve their goals.

Some people try one cigarette, then act like grizzled veterans, advising others not to start, because they are much too far down the path to think about turning back.

Others can smoke packs and packs, then stop with ease.

The only difference in the action/reaction process is the difference between people.

Admittedly, this thread is also about euphemisms and language in many ways.

'Weak' is bad, 'addictive personality' or 'not being able to help it' is fine.
