if I live in Europe..and I've been always thinking I do
it was always about BLACK cat brining bad luck if it corsses your way 😕
Goddesses associated with cats are Mafdet, Sekmet, Bast (Egyptian), Bubatis (Greek) , Freya (Norse), Shasti (Hindu), Anu ( Irish), Brighid (Celtic)
This association of cats with the "divine" specially in old gods, has continued into the present day. But as with many things the Christian church inverted the old ways to make way for the new. So the names of the gods and goddesses, and ones associated with cats became the demons of the Christian hell...not losing their divine status, only their benevolence...and their worshippers were not simple pagans any more, but followers of Satan and witches...
The black cat is a symbol of good in England, for the America it means bad luck...The difference reflects the historical view...In the UK it is based on Celtic tradition, while the American view is based on Christian beliefs...Fables of unnatural white creatures abound in Wales and England. Arthur followed the white deer to the magical well. Thus animals of former pagan reverence, those that were white, bod ill in the UK...When the superstition was transplanted to the States, it was Christianized in such a way that BLACK presaged death and evil...Now, certainly black is more a prevalent view then the former white...
