😐

Or did you not see the link? 😉

A new Halo 3 trailer is shown. Some multiplayer info revealed. Aiming for 50-64 player online. Announce that Halo 3 will be the first game to run natively on 1080p. They will make full use of this update. Available in 2007. Playable behind closed doors.

Hot damn! I can't wait...

Who is making stuff up? That is why I posted the article so you can see my sources. Looking at the list from SonyStyle that is only for 7 games. That still doesn't guarantee all PS3 games will be a $59.99.

It will be highly unlikely that price will be above $59.99.

Anyone who really thinks that a PS3 game will cost about $100 is either completely irrational or has no knowledge of economics whatsoever.

The games price's will be semi-universal as they have been for the last two generations.

X06: Microsoft Announces New Halo Releases, Partnerships
In the run up to Microsoft's Amsterdam-based X06 press event, Microsoft has revealed details surrounding a string of new partnerships and games, as well as new information concerning the company's upcoming Xbox 360 HD-DVD peripheral.

Specifically, Microsoft Game Studios announced that it has signed a deal with acclaimed film writer, director, and producer Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, King Kong), as well as screenwriter Fran Walsh, to develop a pair of new series exclusively for the Xbox 360 its accompanying Xbox Live online service. According to Microsoft, the goal of the partnership is to “create new stories and redefine the way they are told.”

Jackson Does Halo

The first game to come out of this new arrangement will be a collaborative effort with Bungie Studios to co-create a completely new and original chapter in the Halo franchise. The project was explicitly mentioned to not be Halo 3, but a completely separate series set in the Halo universe, hoping to capture more filmic properties in an interactive form. The second project will be an unspecified original property from the team in New Zealand that Microsoft notes will be targeted at drawing in new audiences.

In addition, Microsoft Game Studios also announced that the company will partner with Jackson and Walsh to establish Wingnut Interactive, a New Zealand studio dedicated to the creation of “world-class interactive entertainment”.

Peter Jackson himself is, of course, no stranger to the Halo universe, having recently been secured as the executive producer on the upcoming video game to film adaptation. The movie will be directed by Neill Blomkamp, a largely unknown short film and commercial director, who will make his feature film debut with the movie, which is currently targeted for a Summer 2008 worldwide release.

Said Jackson on the partnership, "Microsoft has built an amazing living canvas with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, which allows the storytellers of our time to express themselves in a new medium. They have fundamentally changed how people think about games. My vision, together with Microsoft Game Studios, is to push the boundaries of game development and the future of interactive entertainment. From a movie-maker's point of view, it is clear to me that the Xbox 360 platform is the stage where storytellers can work their craft in the same way they do today with movies and books but taking it further with interactivity."

In other Halo-related news from the X06 event, Microsoft also announced, via a trailer, a new development titled Halo Wars, a real-time strategy game based on Bungie's Halo universe and designed exclusively for Xbox 360 by Ensemble Studios (Age of Empires), making more sense of Microsoft's recent cease and desist of Slipstream Productions's fan-based Halo-themed Command and Conquer Generals mod Halogen.

Exclusive News

In addition to the expansion of its Halo universe, Microsoft also revealed not only new titles, but exclusivity and special features to titles already known. As previously announced at E3, Rockstar's next chapter in its Grand Theft Auto series, Grand Theft Auto IV, will feature new Xbox Live content, including two "epic" downloadable episodes offering "hours of additional gameplay" available months after the release of the title. Similarly, Microsoft highlighted additional exclusive titles including the next Splinter Cell installment after the forthcoming Double Agent, the new iteration in Ubisoft and Tom Clancy's renowned series, Irrational's forthcoming System Shock spiritual successor BioShock, Project Gotham Racing 4, a new console sequel set in the Banjo-Kazooie universe, and a new MMO set in the Marvel Comics universe, Marvel Universe Online, developed by City of Heroes and City of Villains developers Cryptic Studios.

In addition to the previously covered line up of titles like Lumines Live, Contra, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Small Arms, Gyruss, Mutant Storm Empires, Totemball and Defender, Xbox Live Arcade is also set to receive a revival of classic franchises, including a version of id's 1993 original FPS DOOM, including the original four-episode single-player game, four-player split screen multiplayer, both co-op and deathmatch, and four player co-op and deathmatch over the Xbox Live service. Also, classic Amiga franchise Sensible World of Soccer, recently revived by Codemasters for PC and console release, will be receiving the Xbox Live treatment with similar updated graphics as recent arcade ports.

HD DVD Priced and Dated

Finally breaking full details on the console's upcoming HD DVD Player, Microsoft revealed that the add-on, to be put on sale in mid-November 2006 in North America for $199.99, and in the U.K., France and Germany for €199.99 (£129.99), would be released with a further partnership with filmmaker Peter Jackson, with an HD DVD release of his King Kong film coming bundled with the player. Microsoft expects 150 additional HD DVD titles will be available to consumers by the holidays. More added that the add-on will be the "most affordable" HD DVD player on the market, and will include the Media Center remote.

In all, Microsoft said it remains on track to deliver 10 million consoles worldwide by the end of the year, having sold 5 million consoles since its launch last year -- and with upcoming worldwide launches set for South Africa, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland -- with a library of 160 games.

Peter Jackson will team up with Microsoft!!!!!! HOLY FRIGGIN AMAZING!!!! 😄

Nice. While King Kong may not exactly be the best movie for watching in ultra-high def (The bugs... the buuuuuugs....) that's pretty cool. Wonder when the price will go down...

I seems to remember something about Mr. Kutaragi almost boasting that PS3 games might cost between $60-$100. Was that at E3?

We all know that anything that comes out Kutaragi's mouth should be treated as one would would treat George Bush's oration during a geography examination...

Nice unnecessary stab at our lovable President, there, but it doesn't change the fact that there IS a reason for people to think PS3 games could possibly cost up to $100.

If these people are twelve-year olds held back twice, sure.

The game developers simply wouldn't allow it. They make the product. The product's profit is what keeps the firm alive and profitable.

If a game were to be sold for above the market price and at an absurd price of $100 that would halt any demand possible, than they wouldn't make the game in the first place.

Simple marginal analysis.

Sweet announcements, no Killer Instinct 3 though 🙁

Whoa, calm down there, Draco, before you blow an important artery or something.

I'm just saying that the average consumer who does not think about economics could very well harbor the belief that PS3 games will cost around $100. I'm not saying the games will cost that much, I'm not saying I believe it, I'm just saying that there are a great many people who could.

Y'know what, let's just drop it.

So is there any info on what the HD DVD add-on actually is? I mean, is it a separate exterior player that you cord to the 360, or does it attach in some way?

True, with Kutaragi's idiocy as corporate president, extremely bad press from biased gaming newsfeed and the average education level of gamers both casual and hardcore, it's not surprising that many people thought that games would be a kajillion dollars or something.

It's harddrive that you apparently put into the Xbox360.

I HIGHLY suggest that nobody buys it.

The format war has just begun and unless you want to waste $200 on a HD-DVD drive that has only few movies to play, no gaming support and the possiblity of flunking due to either the Blu-Ray, the new dual-layered DVD that can play high-def for half the price of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray or Itunes I-theater.

It's a very, very risky investment. I would just wait until the smoke clears and the true victor remains standing.

150 HD DVD titles at the end of the year is only a few? But yeah, there's no reason to buy an HD DVD player as of yet. For all anyone knows, all the "new" formats could be commercial flops, and DVDs will remain as they are.

Or someone will make the player that plays all formats, and then everyone can buy that.

Most of them are just rerealeases or new releases that are bound to have bugs as most editorials report problems with HD-DVDs of new releases and Blu-Rays as well.

Someone is already working on player that plays all formats. It's going to be on sell next year. Forgot what it's called though...

It's called expensive.

I feel no urge to purchase the HD-DVD add on. At all.

If I really wanted to, I can watch HD movies all I want on HBO-HD, or On Demand. But I really don't feel the need to get the add on, seeing as how A) I don't watch that many DVD's, and B) it isn't crucial to me to be able to watch a movie in HD, as opposed to regular def. Sports, yes. Movies, no.

I do want one, but I will wait, probably for a long time.

Seems as if Blu-Ray will be better as on PLAY.com Blu-Ray is cheaper and is in most cases the same price as a DVD whereas HD-DVD are €5 more dearer. Plus there is a larger selection of Blu-Ray than HD-DVD
