Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

I've heard reports of major stores like Circuit City and Best Buy getting around 300 Wii per location, which has me pretty optimistic about finding one, as I have pretty much every major electronics retailer within 30 miles.

Currently, as I haven't seen any special bonuses from different stores, I'm begrudgingly planning on the hated Wal-mart for the simple reason that they'll be open at 12:01... 😛

I have 2 Best Buys, 2 Walmarts, Circuit City, Target, Toys R Us, and 3 Gamestops within a 10-15 minute range from my house. lol

I probably wont be able to go anywhere at midnight or camp at walmart all day, so Im hoping to find one somewhere.

Bah, campers are freaks. I'll just go in at 11 and spend an hour playing demos, my DS, and wishing the employees actually knew anything about the products in their department.

Good storyline, character development, exploreable environments, equipment of items to enhance stats, leveling up, many levels of emotion, control over a group of people, some type of magic system or special abilities, and style.

There are many others but those are just some of the one I find important.

Eh, no. A true RPG has nothing to do with controling a group or having emotion. It's simply a game where you control every aspect of your character, you actually take over their "role". Oblivion is the most 'true' rpg of recent memory. You are responsible for deciding not only the actions, but the personality and style of the character.

So in 3 or more years, does everyone think the Wii's graphics will stand up to the 360 and PS3, and not have that much of a noticeable difference? Myself, I think it's inevitable that the Wii's graphics (compared to the other two competitors) will be facing an increasingly larger gap in quality. The question is, will fans/casual gamers mind this graphical difference? Will it affect sales in the long run?

I wanted to know what you guys thought.

Oblivion is a fine example of a new RPG. But most RPG fans enjoy the classic RPG elements, which I named it the post before, also most game with your opinion of a true rpg are MMORPGs like WoW and don't have the same emotional attachment as games like Final Fantasy.

Xbox won’t have a problem releasing games like Oblivion but RPG fans are not going Xbox because they are lacking the classical aspect of the RPG. Dragon Quest 8 is a prefect example of a classic RPG and it sold millions without multiple good classic style RPGs Xbox is loosing a very large fan and devoted fan base. RPG fans are more dedicated to there games than Halo fans and that’s saying something. Also Oblivion will be out for the PS3 so once again Xbox will gain 0 rpg fans because of it.

I don't think there's that great a noticeable difference now, personally. I can see a difference in quality, but really it's not that big.

Later on... only time will tell, and it really depends on what the developers do.

I have already predicted the wii only lasting 5 years due to this fact. So yes I think that it will be graphically obsolete in a few years and yes I think it will have a large impact on new customers. But it will gain a large fan base in the first years too keep it going for a while.

Well again, emotional attachment has nothing to do with a 'true' rpg. The types of RPG's that are popular, like FF, are barely even RPG's in the literal sense of the word. They're interactive movies.

And yes, Xbox does have some of those Japanese style RPG's you're referring to, namely Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

Too bad its the same game and the PS3 is $200 more 🙄

And if people really wanted to play that bad, that would already get it on 360. lol

I never was much into FF style of RPG in video games. I kinda like how KOTOR did the whole good and evil in the game.

Hell yeah.

For WD.... 🍺

I actually wasn't too fond on how KOTOR did the good/evil thing, because it's just basically the complete opposite of how it's meant to be - your alignment should dictate your actions, not the other way around.

And what BF said is right, and I'll extend it...almost all RP video games are basically interactive movies. There is little-to-no actual RPing.

It has 2.......that’s not going to pull any RPG fan. Blue dragon has big names developing it but still looks to be just an average game. Lost Odyssey hasn't given enough game play video to tell if it is any good.

Xbox is trying to gain RPG fans but it hasn't worked yet and isn't looking like it will work anytime soon. They need a good development company like Level-5, Tri-Ace, Square, atlus, or revive a company like Working Designs to make exclusive 360 titles.

Not if they don't have a 360 and already plan on getting the PS3 anyways. doped

Well in that case IM fans are one of 2 things stoping the xbox360 from over powering PS3.

It very well could pull in RPG fans if the games turn out to be as great as they're hoping. All it takes is one great RPG to sell a system to hardcore RPG fans. Plus Xbox also has the Fable Sequel, along with the obvious KOTOR sequel that will surely come out.

I don't have to work Friday!!!

Which is a good thing. As I don't want to deal with fanboys.

But a bad thing, because I was looking forward to an excuse to kill people.

Still don't know about Sunday, though.

You're so lucky:

I heard not all EB games and Gamestops will be getting their shipments of PS3s. It's going to be a riot!
