Yes, you are right in the sense its got everyone talking about it i.e. the name, but so far no real concern over what games are being made for it, or how the console will compete with the PS3.

That is quite stupid because the games matter more than the name and it seems trying to be clever with the name has overshadowed the important issues.

What about that crazy gun/sword game recently?

That shown the world two things:

1. Nintendo are listening to the outcrys for more "mature" games (yes, I am fully aware violence does not equal maturity, you know what I mean).

2. The potential of the controller and the games that can be done.

It was certainly more impressive than any of the fakery thats been shown for the PS3 so far.

Everyone knows the PS3 will outsell it. People are stupid and blinded by shiny things, and want the biggest, shiniest gadgety gadget there is. That's not the point. Nintendo are much less competing with the PS3, as ensuring it's success, providing endless avenues of gadgetry that Sony can steal and pretend they invented.

I don't think Sony want to kill Nintendo, it's in their best interests to keep the innovators of the games industry alive and well, mainly so they can steal every good idea they come up with.

Im going to call my new Nintendo System VIVA LA REVOLUTION!. Nah maybe not. None of us really know what the official name will be until they do their E3 press conference. Ask yourself this, why would Nintendo change their console name to Wii before E3 and not during E3? This is a marketing tactic to get people to pay attention to Nintendo so they can reveal a bigger surprise. You steal the show from Microsoft and Sony and you get more people interesting in the "Wii".

EDIT: Adding Gamespots poll on Wii

What do you think about the Revolution's new name, the Nintendo Wii?
Whaa? 6179 (11%)
W00t! 3388 (6%)
Wow. 4237 (8%)
WTF? 38642 (73%)

I'm not so sure if PS3 will outsell the Wii. Sony is in a difficult position and if XBOX was in that position people would assume Sony will dominate once again.
a)they're the last to come out, a year after XBOX has and because of this, the launch games will not come close to what the XBOX is offering in terms of games (Gears of War, Too Human, and such)
b)it's going to be the most expansive console to date so casual gamers (Sony's market), could be swayed to go towards Nintendo and XBOX
c)Sony infamous faulty parts will probably come into play

Nintendo is going to be offering a console where people can play thier beloved old NES and Sega games, its going to be dirt cheap, the gameplay is going to be unique and also normal with the GC controllers, and Nintendo is turning into the middle child. It offers unique gameplay that no other console has, and when somebody buys one of the two big boys, because its soo cheap, peopel will pick up for their second console. It's way to expansive to pick up both Sony and MS consoles.

I have a feeling that Sony is going to lose its foothold in the market for this current gen. They're doing what they never do when releasing consoles.

doesnt really look all that great, im sure they'll make improvements but that wasnt that impressive. ^

It looks good, but it also looks XBOX 360 good too.

It's stupid, not because I say so. I just happen to be saying that it is. How can you logically and realistically claim that it's not stupid to call something an incorrect name in the face of knowing that it's incorrect? Genuine question. It doesn't matter what it was called before, what matters is what it's called now. That's not The Revolution, so tell me, why do you call it that? Predicted answer: "Because I want to." Time saving reply: Why do you want to?

Wii isn't an objectively stupid name, clearly. It's a name you dislike. That is factually subjective. Calling it The Revolution IS stupid for the very clear reason that...well...that's not it's name. What's so hard to grasp there? Really. Ignorance is stupid, hence why it's ignorance. That is what you're displaying here.

They made a dumb decision...to you. Whether YOU like it or not, that decision is made. Call it whatever you want, but factually- if the name is kept- it will always be known as Wii. As BackFire correctly pointed out, no amount of calling it anything else will change that. So again, your actions are illogical. The problem here commonly is that anyone who has their views challenged automatically revert to "Why are you taking it personally?"/"Why are you insulting me?" I'm not taking it personally and I'm not insulting you. I called your logic and actions stupid, because they are and I have proven why. You're not providing any good reason why you should call it The Revolution beyond "I want to. I like it better."

So without the desperate and unneeded retorts of "You're defending Nintendo" or such, all you have to do is explain to me why you are doing what you are. Simple, civil request.

-AC

Why do I want to call it Revolution? I've already said why. Wii... is a stupid name. Revolution is a better name. I will call it the better name, simple as that.

I don't need to back up my opinion, especially when it's affecting you in no way. I'm not trying to change the name at all. You took personal offense that I'm calling the system a name other than what Nintendo has currently dubbed it, and you made it a point to call out this self-proclaimed "illogical thinking."

Maybe it's illogical to you. I don't care, because to me, it's not. The Revolution has been called the Revolution for probably a year now; I'll stick with it. I feel it describes more of what the system is, and I'm sure as hell not going to call up my friends and ask them if they want to play on my Wii, in all seriousness.

Just because the name won't change back to Revolution, I must start calling it Wii now, or it makes my actions stupid? I understand what you're saying, but what the hell does it matter what I call it?

Once again, you felt the urge to call me out because you felt I was insulting Nintendo by calling it the Revolution.

Now ask yourself, would this argument have happened if the PS3 changed its name, and I decided to still call it the PS3? An honest answer would be "No." 😉

Hmm... yeah, not working. Nice attempt at being sappily clever, Big N, but you forgot another word that rhymes with "Wii."

I'll still buy it though, and call it a Revolution nonetheless. 😛

Or if you had 2 you call it your Wii Wii.

They might as well call it: The Nintendo sucks balls compared to PS3

Ok so we've established that you believe it's the better name. I believe so too. The FACT (fact, as in...overruling your opinion) is that it's not called Revolution. So I'll ask the better question: Why do you insist on calling it a name that you know is factually WRONG?

You do need to back up your opinion, debate rule number 1. Be able to back up what you spew up. You can't, let's move on.

You're a very ignorant person. I've repeatedly stated I took no personal offense, but of course you say that to make yourself look better.

You're not calling it an alternative name, that would be fine. You're calling it the former, incorrect name. What part of that is causing you dire peril in understanding?

And now it's not called that. Time matters none, I've called it Revolution for as long as you, no problems calling it Wii from this end, or most ends if this thread is any indication. You're just being ignorant and weaseling out of trying to back up anything you say, because you know that there is no logic or sense behind what you are doing.

It doesn't matter what you feel, you don't have a say in its name. It's called Wii, not Revolution. Do you not get that or something? It's the simplest of premises.

Why does it matter? It doesn't "matter" really, but this is a discussion board. You are calling it something that it isn't. It's not open for discussion at this point, its name is not Revolution. You know this, I know this and people in this thread know this. I think Revolution was much better, the best name, but the fact remains that it's Nintendo's machine and what they say about the name is what goes.

No I called you out to find out why you were doing it, as I've repeatedly told you. It doesn't matter what company it is. It's just stupid. Another fine display of ignorance.

No, that would be the answer you want. Any person calling ANYTHING by a name that it is factually not connected with, is adopting stupid mentality. If you went and called the PS3, the PS3...after it changed its name to something else, that would be stupid.

If you're going to reply to me, don't play the ignorance card. I've explained to you fairly, I've explained why I'm asking. Take that or leave it, but we know you can't back up what you say.

Technically the name Revolution IS connected to the system, because it was the code name.

But it's just a damn name...as I said before, who cares? I really don't think Nintendo will care if a handful of people decide to still call it Revolution instead of Wii.

And as I said before -- when something had a certain name for a long time, then it changes...the vast majority of people are not going to be used to the new name right away, or even like it.

At any rate, this thread really has no more need to stay seperate, so I'm going to merge it into the Next-gen thread.

Meh, believe what you want. I'm done arguing here.

If you want to think its illogical, go on right ahead. I've stated why I'll continue to call it the Revolution.

If it gets you all riled up that I'll call it the Revolution and not Wii, you need to take some kind of pills, seek professional help, and try to ignore the fact that millions of people are going to be calling it the Revolution and not the "Wii."

Sorry, but that's that, no matter how you feel about it. 👆

Spot the keyword. IS connected? No, was. WAS the code name, WAS the title, WAS the name. Isn't now. It's called Wii. I don't want to have to keep etch-a-sketching that out for people who should have got it the first time.

So? Wasn't my point. My point was that calling it Revolution now is silly because it's not called that.

Again; So what? Like it or not, it's not called Revolution. End of chapter, close the book. I know what people WANT it to be called, are USED to calling it and all that bs, I'm not discussing that. So you're not really making sense.

And I've explained that.

To me, it's still the Revolution.

I know, I know, "But Nintendo changed the name! You can't call it that! That's stupid! It's the Wii now!"

I'm not going to argue any further on something so trivial, so I'll just say this: I couldn't care less.

It's the Revolution; the Revolution is still connected to the system, whether you admit it or not, and I'm going to continue to call it that.

Now stop repeating your question; I've answered you, and, again, I really couldn't care less whether my answer gains your approval.

Why do you keep pounding away at people who decide to call it Revolution other than the fact has been made already that its no longer called Revolution but now Wii?

Give it a rest, I dont think anyone cares if H.S.6 calls it Revolution or Wii or anyone else for that matter. Which is why it makes me wonder why you have to reply to him if he decides to call it Revolution.

Sure call it what ever you want, the Wii, Revolution, WWII, The box that plays stuff etc.

Its still the same thing. I'm not going to be buying one though, the whole interacting with the control doesn't buy me over.

Oh I'd also like to point out your ignorance here as Lana did say it is connected with the system and was the codename.

Now that makes perfect sense and what your saying is compared to running into a pole.

What I dont understand is why people care so much for a name to the point on where you protest the name.
Your acting like a mini rebel under the tryanny of Nintendo.

Does it mean soo much to you that its called Wii. Did you guys personally make the name up and are pissed about Nintendo changing it?

Don't lump "us guys" together. I'm not protesting the name at all. I simply pointed out that I'd rather call it Revolution, and AC called me out on it. 😬

not sure if anyone posted this....but its pretty cool. NOT OFFICIAL though, just speculation

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2063821498385606325&q=nintendo+revolution

That is a pretty sweet video. I haven't really found many on it yet, due to most sites (EG: IGN) being paid membership.

It's not connected anymore, at all. The only vague connection it has is being the name that WAS used and is now incorrect. So once again I'm forced to ask a question because you're failing to answer me.

I know YOU want to call it the Revolution, I know you think it's a better name and I've said I agree with you. I know you'll continue to call it that and- stupid or not- that's your right, fine. My point is, my question is; WHY do you persist in calling it something that YOU KNOW is incorrect? It'a simple question.

Because I'm curious as to why you would willing refer to something as a name that isn't connected to it. It was, it's not now. Doing so is just pure ignorance. So I'm trying to understand if it's wilful ignorance or not. It must be.

I don't either, call it what he wants. I'm just trying to get an answer as to why, he apparantly doesn't have one. When it's broken down to bare bones, it's obvious that it's just pure ignorance.

Do you see the contradiction?

"I'm not protesting the name, I'm just saying Nintendo are dumb and the name is dumb and I'm going to be the smart one and call it something that isn't relevant anymore."

Doesn't sound like a protest.
