Your best bet for finding a deal is calling around the day of release, many larger stores will be selling the game for about $10 cheaper than normal on the first week of release. Fry's Electronics always has good deals for big new games the first few days.
I've never experienced a store selling a newly released game cheaper than its original price.

Anata wa wakarimasu ka.....

I've seen a few stores do that but it's not very common - it's far more common to see that sort of thing for DVDs and CDs.

Frye's does do that, I just dont think the few bucks is worth the longer drive for me. 😛

Alot of shops here do the loyalty card thing.. if you go in and buy it within a week of release with the loyalty card, you get 10% off... not a huge amount, but still...

He 10% is 10%. I'll be more then happy to pay 10% less then I would have to normally.

Yeah, true.

I got Bioshock for about 55 with tax from Best Buy. I think EB had it at $69 without tax, maybe $59.

I just like getting it from Best Buy because I go in, pick it up, leave in 5 minutes while at EB, sometimes it takes me 15 minutes or more due to how the store is designed.

Not looking hard enough. Some stores like Walmart, Circuit City do it occasionally, and like has been said, Fry's Electronics does it with every semi big game that comes out. I got Bioshock for 49.99, as I did with Forza 2, Dead Rising, and a number of other 360 games.

Well next time I'll have to check out the Best Buy that's near here b/c the Wal-Mart near here never does it.

Never heard of Fry's Electronics.

Fry's is almost entirely west-coast except for a store near Chicago, and I think there's one or two others that are out east in the US. It's a pretty awesome store, it's massive and has all sorts of awesome things.

lucky for you guys...where i live, retailers tend to double the price of new releases (games, consoles, handhelds, desktops etc...you name it).

even if its already a few months old or so, if its still selling, chances are, prices are still unbelievably high.

would you believe that a ps2 here still costs around 250$?

damn bastards!

yup, couldnt agree more...

i also know someone who works in a gameshop, so i get discounts anyways woot

Penny-Arcade said it best about EB / Gamestop

While some of that is crap, I really can't say too much - Gamestop can be incredibly stupid as a company. But then again...they're a company that started out as a bookstore, not much more needs to be said about that.

Did they, hmmm never liked Gamestop that much, but I never knew that you do learn something new everyday, Thanks Lana.

Heh, yeah. Gamestop (or whatever it was called when it started - it's gone through so many name changes) was started by Barnes and Noble, unlike EB Games which started out as a software company.

There's a good reason why most people prefer EB over Gamestop and dislike the merger 😛

The discount for employees of the other company is nice, though.
