The difference is that all the great Sony exclusive games are heading over to the 360. And the 360 is still cheaper with better online modes and online play and already it has a much better library of games (even the Wii has a better library of games) and most third-party developers have already seen that making a game for the PS3 would cost much more then making one for the 360 and the Wii.And games that will appear on the 360 and PS3; the developers will make it for the 360 and port it over to the PS3 and slap on some horrible controls to use the motion sensor. It's been nearly a year since launch and still no game on the PS3 that would make someone buy a PS3 just to play it.
And why take out the rumble feature?
Again, they've lost some of their glamour in the area of exclusives... but even so. Don't write it off; it has time to pull things together and to underestimate Sony is a mistake. It is entirely unlike the gamecube which had nothing else to offer.
Ans as pointed out, the Wii is not trouble free, and I am speaking as a Nintendo fan here. Sure, the Wii is making Nintendo more money than anyone could have imagined right now- yay! But we're a year into that as well now and how many decent third party games have there been? I mean, the best is Resident Evil 4 and that's a re-made GC game. In fact large amounts of 3rd party work has just been re-making or control adjustment. I'm lucky in that I never played RE4 and it was a quality conversion with decent use of the Wii controls so that hit the spot for me, but for the average hardcore gamer this kind of thing is not sustainable.
The answer is that 3rd party quality for the Wii has been pretty much non-existent. heck, for that matter, we're only just getting now a decent run of first party stuff. So the Wii is not exactly radiating excellence on the software front either, with most of its reputation built on Wii Sports- gorgeous as that is, of course.
Wii hardware sales are amazing but software sales are nothing like as dominant. Loads of people are buying the Wii, but proportionately far fewer are buying anything else for it other than Wii Play (though noting in japan they buy Sports as well). The speed of Halo 3 sales is not likely to be matched by the Wii, and for the first time sales declined slightly in Japan recently.
I'm not being gloomy here- Wii has had a fantastic start, in a month where nothing interesting came out for it it still sold almost as much hardware as the Halo-backed Xbox, it has stunning potential, and Super Mario Galaxy is out soon- time for the big guns.
But Nintendo cannot make all of its games. If the third party situation doesn't shape up, then four years down the line the Wii might end up looking pretty shabby compared to the competition.
I hear good vibes about this 'Zak and Wiki' game, though.
