PS3 Slim doing extremely well in the Japanese market.

Also, Pokemon SoulSilver is outselling it's other counterpart, HeartGold.
I guess nobody likes a flying multi-colored chicken.

I do.

Fair enough. Apparently is is entirely feasible that a Wii in HD could display all current Wii games at better resolution, as this has already been done in emulation. That's a good pull for existing Wii owners to upgrade- but it won't really work unless they start making some dedicated games for a better Wii.

I do feel I should point out at this point that nearly siix months after release, not one bit of the potential for the DSi has yet been realised, though. DsiWare is 9/10ths shit and there has been no Handheld virtual console and no games taking advantage of its extra power or SD card feature. So I worry that Nintendo might cock up a better Wii as well.

Still, they still have quite a lead, so we'll see what happens.

Well, if they released it with a new HD Zelda, or Metriod I might think about. The idea of mixing the art design of Nintendo's in house games and HD makes it a much more intriguing purchase.

You know how it is with Nintendo- the awesome twinned with the abysmal. Take the Wii- compact, sleek, low power requirement, relaible... godawful user interface and file management system.

And if the DSi is anything to judge by, it could be a year or more after an HD Wii is released |(if that happens at all) before the killer aps come out on it.

I have to say that I'm kind of surprised Nintendo still hasn't really done anything with the DSi. I mean, yeah, I like mine (kinda wish they'd had pink ones at lauch, grrrrr), it's nice to have, especially as my old DS Lite was starting to give out...but it's also like, okay, so what's the point of this again?

On the other hand, I'm really kind of not at all.

As for an HD Wii...yeah, I can't say that's something I care about at all. I hardly ever play mine as it is, so I certainly wouldn't want to replace it with another one. Nor do I even own an HDTV or have any plans to get one (any movies I watch I do so on my laptop and I don't watch TV. What's the point?).

Wii price drop is on Sunday, btw. I'm surprised that they're doing it so early, I figured it'd be a bit closer to Christmas. Makes me glad I'm not working Sunday, though 😛

(also, Nintendo's insistence of doing everything on Sundays drives me up the ****ing wall. Use a normal day, damnit)

Yeah. It could be the case that MS and Sony have separate divisions in their corporation that develop interfaces for a living and do it better.

I love the 360 interface. It's easy to use and reminds me of Windows. PS3 on the other hand is hardcore. There's a ton of options and reminds me of Linux. A few little things piss me off though, especially how seeing friends trophies and messages are worked out. I do love how when you click on the game without starting it, the background changes to that game and it's usually some really cool artistic background. There might be a way to capture it so it keeps on being your background.

In the end though, the Wii interface is crap. Is there any way of turning off that ****ing warning at the start?

No. And the online is clunky and unintuitive. And copying files from SD cards onto a different machine is insanely awkward.

Shitty. I never go online or copy any files from SD cards. Too bad there wasn't a removable HD. That feature has served me well.

Attention all fellow video game nerds!

Does anybody know where I could purchase a standard/stock white Xbox 360 Pro case w/HDMI? I like my 360 Elite but the black case makes it look really weird in the multimedia center, so I'm looking to put the Elite inside a white case instead.

If not a white case, does anybody know where I could find and purchase a plain white (I think the 360's white is called Arctic Chill) skin/wrap for my 360 Elite?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet will be to go into an unofficial repair shop and ask for a standard xbox case (they tend to have loads lying around) and then just bore a hole in the case for your hdmi port yourself.

Otherwise you're looking at having to fork out for one of the chameleon cases or suchlike.

I am amused at the positive spin put on the news that there are no expected Wii shortages this holiday.

I mean, obviously it's a good thing, but we all know it's because the Wii isn't selling like it was so they've kept more in stock this year, not because Nintendo have radically changed their production methods.

Still- the price cut and upcoming Wii Fit+ and Mario games should see the sales looking pretty brisk this holiday.

Actually, it's kind of amusing. I can only speak from my own experience here...but every PS3 and 360 price cut has led to us being sold out of those particular systems. Sold out of 80GB PS3s the day they dropped the price, sold out of Pro 360s the day they dropped the price...

Wiis are kind of not going anywhere at the moment; I personally have not sold a single one inside the past two weeks (and I've been working at two stores, that have very different sales patterns). I dunno. I think the market's just too saturated in them now - just about everyone has one at this point.

They'll still sell around the holidays, but it's certainly not going to be anywhere near like the last few years.

(for which I personally am very, very glad, to be honest)

That is interesting.

I guess anybody who really wanted a Wii already has one.

Oh, the sales are still good. Following the price cut it's the top seller again worldwide right now, and even though that boost won't hold forever the Wii has a 20 million lead over the 360 to work with.

But the days when the Wii was always sold out everywhere and was beating rivals by six figures every month are gone.

I don't think they'll be entirely disappointed if the sales are slowing down. They've already exploited areas where there was never any console sales before. I mean, there's even many old-folk sheltered housing areas that are buying in wii's to keep the elderly physically active. 90 year olds playing Wii fit...

I guess it is getting to the stage of market saturation for it.

The only reason the 360 still generates the sales it does it because people need to replace their broken ones. If it was actually reliable then they'd be selling hardly any nowadays.

360 is laying out the new strategy with Natal next year, so that will be the one to watch to see if the 360 still has legs. Still, I am dispapointed that Microsoft have decided to keep th 360 in for longer. I really did think that getting a whole new thing out would have stuffed Sony pretty hard.

It would.

But I think they can stand pat right now. If they shove a new console in the faces of gamers, would it do well? It's an interesting question. I don't think there is a huge market for a new console right now because I think people are happy with what has been released so far.

The PS3 games still can be amazing to look at, as well as 360 games.

Where can they go with graphics these days?

There is still room for graphics to improve, as nice as they are now. Photorealism still has yet to be reached.

However, since when is graphics the only improvement that can be made?

The biggest thing to eliminate in games and all interfaces, to my mind, is ANY waiting. Download times, disc read times, lag... all of these things need to go.

One of the most irritating things I find about PCs is that as hard drives and memory gets faster, the programmes grow in relative complexity so they never seem to get faster at all. As for consoles, games on optical discs now read SLOWER than games were loading ten or fifteen years ago- and now they are messing around with hard drive installations and tyhey are still slow! Gaaaah!

I mean, I started gaming on an Atari 2600 and the games loaded close to instantaneously (though those cartridges were insanely prciey at the time, considering how much game you got out of them. My brother outlayed what would today be more than a hundred dollars on a game he finished in 30 minutes), and almost immediately after that- in the Spectrum/Commodore game days- we regressed back to games taking up to five minutes to load, and sometimes not even being done then in multiload games. I hated it then and I would never have believed that we would still not be back to instant speed almost three decades on.

I'm glad the 360 is going to keep going for a while.

The more time before I have to shell big bucks for a next-gen, and possibly more expensive, console the better.

I hated what they did with the original xbox.
