Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

Microsoft is able to tell when a system is modded, and they will ban you permanently from XBL.

i dont think so.

the guy who modded my 360 added something called "Stealth" to the disk. It's a program that makes burned copies undetectable and playable on live.

I wouldn't rely on that keeping you safe.

Now, let's go back to discussing legal activities, okay?

I just went out raping!

modding an xbox isn't illegal, is it?

Modding a console is not illegal at all. It's yours to do whatever the hell you like. As long as you don't take credit for someone else's work, or try to profit by it. (Getting your console repair by someone other than the manufacter could fall into modding)

That's why Microsoft (or any other company) won't and clearly can not damage (render useless) your console if you modded it.

By modding you lose your warranty... and technical help as well

Making a backup copy of whatever digital good you legally own it's not illegal, though that's highly debatable.
A bootleg copy that's commercialize is clearly illegal. As it is any activity involving piracy.
...and since modding it's mainly used to play illegal backup copies, it's consider illegal

The only thing that M$ can do, if they caught you doing it, it's ban you from Xboxlive (ban the console ....and gamertag I think, not the user)

Stealth works... but not for long. Firmwares can take care of scanning for modded hardware, and then they'll ban you
The opposite applies as well 😉

S_D_J, what did we say? No talk about illegal activities.

Take a chill pill general, he was just informing people. Besides I believe the post may acturlly make people think twice before they make the decision in modding their console.

Um, no. It's always been very clear. Discussion of illegal activities is not allowed here, at all. None. Everyone's been told to stop. Console modding counts because it's always done for illegal reasons.

So stop it. And do not ever again tell a mod making a mod decision to 'chill'.

I will say whatever I want to if I feel it is appropriate. SDJ corrected the statement about modding being illegal, furthermore he gave everyone a better insight on what was legal and wasint, and to not approve of such a good comment is stupid.

With his post I and probobly others aswell have a better understanding of the matter.

when someone thinks that certain information, (and infact information that helps ppl understand a subject better) is to be not talked about and specially in such manner as the general siad it

"what did we say? No talk about illegal activities."

I will tell them to chill, because thats the right thing to do. be it a 5 star general or usama bin laden himself!

It doesn't really matter if you think it's appropriate or not, does it? If a mod says to not do something, you don't continue doing it. You certainly do not argue with it - that is very clearly stated in the rules. It is a warnable offense, and you can have a warning for doing so.

No discussion of modding or other such activities are allowed here. Period. This is done with and I will not hear another word.

I don't mean to cause problem.

I was only referring to something I thought was poorly answered.

just a few pages back there was an open discussion about fixing a console, which is indeed (by definition) modding it as it is tampering with the factory setting of the device by someone other than the manufacter. All of which is legal.

I'm sorry for finding a legal loophole there.

Well it's not illegal in that you can't be arrested or put in prison for it, but it is against the Microsoft's terms of use.

QFT

I haven't been using my 360 for like a month (since I finished Prototype). I just used it to update it, If there's anything new besides the continued advertising and the ridiculously overpriced "games on demand" and useless avatar merchandise? (I want that lightsaber so bad, but 5 bucks?, for something with zero use?)
It's this the twitter, facebook update? (haven't really use it besides the avatar marketplace)

And the PS3 3.0 update looks cool (sackboy running on the XMB background is priceless), but too much advertising on the XMB is ridiculous, that's one thing I loved about the XMB (over the NXE) the most.... and now they're doing it with big pictures... 😐

EDIT: as if anybody didn't know already

Rumor: Walmart Lists $299 Xbox 360 Elite SKU
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/101/1017301p1.html

August 23, 2009 - When Sony announced a price cut of the Playstation 3 to $299 at Gamescom last week, many expected Microsoft to respond with a price cut of its own. Surprisingly, though, the company's press conference came and went without any talk of pricing at all.

One report even cited a national electronics retailer claiming the channels were still stocked too high, and Microsoft simply wanted to delay the announcement until more units were moved.

But now a new Walmart catalog expected to hit August 30 has surfaced showing the Xbox 360 Elite SKU being priced at $299. (via Joystiq) This would lend credence to a report last week suggesting the Pro unit is being phased out entirely, leaving only the Arcade and Elite models on store shelves.

- Joystiq

One notable item to point out from the picture above: The Elite unit will no longer come with a HDMI cable.

Provided this is ad is real, September could be the start of an all new console war, with every system finally priced at $299 or less. We're marking this as a rumor for now until we get our hands on this catalog or hear something official.

why doesn't M$ makes this official already? it's clearly obvious...

...since there's people that don't use the internet to know about this thing, I understand why they want to clear stock, but, can people who recently bought the console ask for a refund? last time I checked that's possible...

the ridiculously overpriced "games on demand"

The funny thing seems to be that the prices are the same everywhere, regardless of what games cost in that country. You might find the games on demand expensive, while I am very surprised with how very cheap they are, saving hundreds of crowns by buying them over Xbox Live then going to the store.

really? 😆
consider yourself lucky. I know most games can be found in mint (if not new) condition for much less than those prices.

"She will have order!!" 😄

Ahh, just reminded me of a scene from Order of the Phoenix.

Anyone heard about the rumored 250GB 360 coming with Forza?

Having Trouble with PS3 Internet Settings/Connection

I've tried just about everything, and I can't get my PS3 to hook up to the internet. I'm in a wireless environment, so I don't need an ethernet cable.

Help.

Get an x360 or PC.
