Playing on the PC is not just about the graphics. The idea is wrong. If I remember correctly, the majority of people on Steam who did the hardware survey are using mid-range computers.
A few years ago, I would agree but considering the amount of good quality ports PC is getting now, it's not just about graphics, it's a viable market.
The PC market continues to expand at a steady pace. It is on path to overtake console gaming in a few years.
I found a chart somewhere that showed PC Gaming to have steadily risen each year...for the most part. Meaning, the idea that PC gaming was faltering was never true. What ACTUALLY happened was an explosion in console gaming (meaning, there was an addition of non-gamers into gamers for a period there.)
I would think that would be true.
While it's true stores have been a bit lackluster when it comes to housing PC games, Steam and other downloadable sites have easily taken over and more so than stores could ever have done.
Unfortunately, sales figures are rarely given out when it comes to downloadable tiles but the evidence of every major release being released on the PC (more so than before) shows that the PC market is doing quite well.
Personally I think we'll see "PC"s as we know it vanish almost completely from the consumer market. And the devices will be more of a mix of console traits and computer traits (like we see with the current consoles and like we see with the iPad). I think the separation between the two will be meaningless within 10 years, whether you call it the death of the PC or the death of the consoles will be up to your own preferences..

Well, it doesn't matter to me if I play the games that are currently being released today on a tablet, desktop, or laptop as long as I have a keyboard/mouse, or controller.
I don't see current gaming that involves some sort of controllers losing any interesting. I think people will always want to play with one so I don't think gaming will change drastically.
What the devices are will change but how we play probably won't.

PC is only talked about now because of graphics, once the new crop of consoles comes out matching graphic quality, it will go back to being a niche group for awhile. Cloud/streaming gaming could be the future rendering PC gaming, and console gaming, almost obsolete anyways 😬
what about the Wii? how could have this year been better for Nintendo than Sony? This was its worst year, there were no games for Wii (except Zelda just less than a month) and the 3DS bombed almost entirely. It since have taken some much needed steam, but still... nowhere better than Sony.
Still, and this is my opinion, PS3 had better games this year. Besides GoW3, I had no interest in purchasing games for my 360... maybe HALO Anniversary, and I still haven't bought Gears 😬

What makes you think ps'll outsell the 360 in '12? what does the ps3 have besides having the most exclusive titles. and also don't mention move.
to me, if the ps3 is to surpass the 360 in sales in '12 it must fully fix psn, which, as always, is second to xbox live, their price tag, which was/is ridiculous, i know that the ps2 is the best selling console of all time but they became too overconfidant with the outcome, they thought they had a golden egg with the ps3 and then they overpriced to their failure because it is now last in this generation, in terms of sales. there were other factors like release time but you get the picture. they make sh*tty hardware, i know the 360 has the rrod but ps3's are so sensitive. Their ports are horrible, i can go on. but those are just some of the issues sony needs to address if it's to outsell the 360 in '12, as you say it will.
And pc's are talked about because of graphics, what's wrong with that? and it's not only graphics. it's the technology and optimization that's the overall factor here. with microprocessors advancing exponentially and high powered gpu's becoming as complex as they can be, the sky's the limit, figuratively speaking, because then i'll have to get into moore's law but that's another library.
on another tangent, my interest has slighltly faded with consoles and their half decade old uncustomizable tech. i liked consoles, i even played it more than i did pc, and i mean i still play my 360 at times but pc gaming is where my heart is. i'm more of a pc player because honestly, to me, it's currently the best video game.. device, if you want to call it that, overall, imo. it's definetely the most powerful video game device surpassing consoles by a whole generation, i'd have to say.
pc's will always be a generation ahead of consoles, i think.
but to me, personally, i believe pc's started surpassing consoles around early to mid-2000's with "half life 2", "doom 3", "counter strike", "moh:aa online" and "bf2 online". those games are what made me become more of a pc head than a 360 head.

There's the simple fact that PS3 has sold 55.5 million units worldwide in 5 years, while the 360 has sold 57.6 million units worldwide in 6 years. A year difference is in favor of SONY.
but the key here is "Worlwide". The 360 (as a console) it's only largely successful in the US, while in the rest of the world Sony kicks its ass. That's the reason PS3 is so close behind. Worldwide sells.
and no, I'm not taking about features or anything you think is "wrong" with the PS3. Move doesn't even compute into this either.
and BTW I not mentioning games, this is just like with Wii, console sells.

The 160GB PS3 costs $250, the 320GB costs $300
The 4GB 360 costs $200, the 250GB costs $300
now take into account that you need a HDD, 4Gb is not enough, so in order to properly play you need to buy an HDD
a 250GB HDD costs $130 ($96 if you buy one off of Amazon)
now tell me, which one is cheaper?

And no...you really don't need a harddrive to play. If you want to download a bunch of stuff, yes, but just to play and save games, no. I've owned my Xbox for four years now with a 20GB harddrive on it, and have never used up for than about 2GB on it.
Also, Microsoft's sales are only really poor in Japan, which is to be expected, since the competition is two Japanese consoles. And 250GB HDDs for the slim 360s are not $130 anymore and haven't been for a month or two - the 320GB ones were released at $130 and the 250GB ones were dropped to $100. And at any rate, you can just use a cheap flash drive for extra space.

4GB may be enough for some, but what about DLC, digital downloads (both Arcade and retail)... or even demos?... heck you couldn't play Reach Co-op if you didn't have an HDD.
even priced @ $100 it's a hefty price to pay, especially when you can get a brand new 500GB HDD for PS3 for $50

And if you read my post, you'd see that I said that if you download stuff, then yeah, you'll need a harddrive. Not everyone bothers with DLC or Arcade games, though. And the 4GB systems do sell phenomenally well.
And sure, you can just swap whatever harddrive in the PS3 you want...if you feel like voiding your warranty. Another thing most people aren't willing to do.

Funny, because I've seen people get their repairs that otherwise would be covered under the standard warranty denied because they swapped the harddrive.
Never heard of such thing... but they may be getting screwed out of ignorance. or they somehow damaged the warranty sticker.
The manual tells you how to do it. You can call Customers Services for help on how to do it., there's no opening of the system of any kind. the warranty sticker has to go untouched. It's the same situation with a fat or slim models. if it wasn't possible they would have remove the feature off the slim version.

Upgrading the HDD will not void the warranty, however, the consumer takes full responsibility when upgrading the HDD.
And if you are to return the ps3 for any reason, you must remove the custom HDD and put back the original before sending.
