I don't think it's a fair statement to say you're playing a device "meant for kids and teenagers (older kids)." The consoles, ideally, are made to play games that target a broad range of ages, from games for everyone, to games for adults. Microsoft has said themself that their target age when making the 360 was 19, hardly a 'kid' or 'older kid.'

GTA as a game meant for kids? I don't think so.

19 as in nineTEEN... thanks for reassuring my post.

GTA was mostly played by kids which is why they tried to ban the game in the first place.

19 is hardly a kid. 🙄

And you're missing the point of this debate: are you trying to say that, even though the 360's ideal target demographic was 19-year-olds, and games like GTA are clearly aimed for older, more mature audiences, all video gaming is still childish, and being aimed for kids?

If you think about it, all of the people who grew up with the first Zelda and Mario games are much older now and not a little kid.

There are some hardcore Zelda fans out there playing every Zelda game that comes out so I wouldn't call certain games "Kiddie Games", b/c kids who like those games grow up into adults who like those games.

is it comprehensible.....

that is true..most people were kids when mario and zelda games came out...those fans would want to buy every game of that franchise...doesnt make it 'kiddie'...
hmm..mario and zelda and lego starwars shouldnt really be accused to be 'kiddie' games...sure, they're aimed at a younger audience, but common, i know some of my old teachers are playing lego starwars now, and are even having some difficulty with it...

Im not saying anything NINTENDO does is kiddie, that was Draco who suggested that, all Im saying is we are playing on something meant for kids.

Did they actually try to ban the game?

They just wanted to change the rating to Mature so that younger kids couldn't get it, not band it all together.

Although, just b/c they changed the rating won't stop kids from getting it. Not all parents that bought it for their children when it was Teen won't stop now just b/c it's Mature.

Just wanted to put that out there. Please continue on with the "Kiddie Games" debate.

Well well well... As Draco nicely puts it, "with the press of a button" PS3s will be made however do they have enough time to make plenty to go around. This doesnt look too appealing even if SONY has most of the hardcore fans out there, this means most people wont have a PS3 on launch day.

GTA was never rated Teen. It was always rated Mature.

They wanted to change San Andreas to Adults Only (A/O) after that mod leaked, and I think they actually did for a while.

Which is what I'm disagreeing with. 😬

When you're playing GTA on a console aimed ideally for 19-year-olds, it's hardly "meant for kids."

Key word is "aimed", I can make a product aimed for adults but if it has a better use for younger people then they will buy it even tho its meant (aimed) for adults

oh ok. Well I personally think that a Mature rating is appropriate enough.

But you were asking how playing a video game is not childish (in other words, playing a video game is childish), because consoles were meant for kids and teenagers (which you delegated as 'older kids.'😉 I'd say that's a pretty faulty statement considering the fact that, for example, the 360 was meant for 19-year-olds, and furthermore, the games that come out that are clearly not meant for children (such as, like I had brought up, GTA).

There a multiple games on all the consoles that are appropriate for all ages.

The 360 even had that fairy game when it first came out.

Everybody just cool it and enjoy our bountiful library of videogames for all of the consoles.

is it comprehensible.....

Thats exactly what I have been sayin all along. Have you been following what Draco has been saying? cause if you have then you would know what I'm talking about.

Oh, my. We're going around in circles. I think you misunderstood what I meant.

Put simply, you were arguing the point that playing a video game, in and of itself, is childish. You said the reason for that was because consoles were meant for kids and teenagers.

I said I thought that was a faulty way of thinking, given that the 360's ideal age demographic was 19 years old, hardly a child at all. Furthermore, there's a very large number of games that are clearly not intended for kids, 'older' or otherwise (such as GTA, God of War, etc).

So I was countering your point of 'playing a video game is childish' and 'consoles are meant for kids.'

I hope that clears things up. 😛

The whole thing of aiming video games at an older audience is very new, though. I mean, yeah, there've always been games that were aimed more at adults, but it's only recently where there's really been more than a handful that are. Video games, as a whole, are marketed at a younger audience and made to appeal to most everyone.

Oh, no doubt. However, I was trying to make the point that the industry as a whole is indeed changing; instead of aiming for children specifically, consoles and games are now targeting a very broad range. ✅
