This game is kick ass , all those who winge about it 'ruining the series' are whiny bitches who enjoy getting their asses kicked.
Wikipedia has this too say.
The radical departure from the Resident Evil formula has riled some fans of the series who preferred the traditional gameplay elements left over from the 32-bit era such as claustrophobic corridors
, limited save states, limited ammo and weapons, exploration over action, and frequent backtracking. Fans were also outraged at the game's lack of connection to the established RE story and how it essentially ignored the previous game in the series Resident Evil: Code Veronica by saying that Umbrella was shut down right after Raccoon City was destroyed at the end of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, yet Umbrella was still fully operational 3 months later in RE:CV.
Claustrophobic corridors - Oh yes , their such an important function of the game , especially when the corridors are so small zombies fill up the ****ing hallways and you can't run . So you have to waste a butt load of ammo dealing with them...
Limited save states - They were a pain in the ass and no-one liked them , RE:3 learned from the mistake (at least on easy) , no-one likes having to throw away a shotgun just because he has to keep hold of a damn ink ribbon.
limited ammo - Yeah , i really do love having to stab at a ****ing tyrant when i run out of ammo....
Limited Weapons : *Note above answer , just replace ammo with guns)
Exploration over action : I have no idea why the fanboys are crying about this , they should be PRAISING RE4 if they like exploring , since they have a village , an island AND a castle to trek through .
Frequent backtracking : Everyone hates spawning zombies and Hunters .
Story errors : Excuse me ! where in the hell does it say Umbrella was instantly closed down , all they state is that Umbrella's stock/shares started dropping and their were inquires. Umbrella could still be operating under an assumed name , dummy corporations or just plain out working in a different country. America doesn't have control over the Umbrella corps in Europe .
It's alright IcePunk. Basically according to polls, and what I've seen on forums, and the sales numbers. Capcom gained A LOT of fans with RE4, lost VERY.FEW., a lot of people got back into the series with 4, and many, like me, waited with curiousity for it. Three Million copies sold, in three countries, on two consoles says a lot. Especially considering these numbers were put through I think around December 2005.
I see no complaints at all with 4, I guess some of us can conserve ammunition, and are easier to please then others.
I myself know ONE person who hated 4, out of the plenty of other people I know who love it. 4 is the second best entry in the series to me, second to only the original/REmake, and the only one better then RE2 besides 1.

But you can go back to where you were at that chapter, but not at the same time. The grafs' are look better on the GC 😐
Barely better, there is multiple screenshots comparisons to show this. The graphics are still the best graphics on Playstation 2 next to Silent Hills 3, 4, and Snake Eater.

No , the dropping thing started in 0 , but before you would ether have to trek all the way back to an item box . Or not pick up a vital puzzle solving item.
