The Phrase that Pays
Upon being literally thrown out of the bar, Mo took off running down the road. Her pursuers hot on her tail, were struggling to keep up with her. She turned into an alleyway, trying to lose them, but to her dismay it was a dead end. Now nothing stood between her and the two very large men. They strided towards her, chests heaving from exhaustion. As one drew a dagger, the other drew a pistol, but a smirk spread across Mo's face. In one swift motion, she spread her midnight-black wings and took off, leaving the men wide-eyed and angrier than before.
A shot was fired, Mo quickly dodged it as she dived behind some nearby trees. Another shot, she flew out from the protection of the trees, and tried to make it to a nearby house. A third shot, Mo hesitated for a split second, and with that the bullet ripped through her left wing. She went spiraling to the ground, and with impact, there was a sickening snap and a pain like no other that spread through her leg.
Gritting her teeth and wincing in almost unbearable stress, Mo picked herself up off of the ground. She limped to the front door of the house, dragging her wing painfully behind her. Mo leaned against the door frame, barely able to keep herself standing, and knocked on the door.
