Abortion: Should parents need to be informed?

Started by Afro Cheese9 pages

I am serious... all it takes is a broken condom..

Yeah but that's hardly the same as saying it doesn't take much to slip up and get pregnant. The condom has to be on the guy and the guy has to be in the girl for anything to happen. If a girl gets to that point easily...then there's a name for that.

But just cause they're having sex doesn't mean it "got to that point easily." They could be in a steady realitionship for all you know..

Where are you going though?

A girl who has had an abortion around or before 17 means bad job.

I'm saying that (I think) we agree that teaching safe sex is better than trying to repress it altogether, and that sex can lead to a pregancy no matter what precautions you take, excluding surgery. So if a mistake is made and the teenage girl gets pregnant it's most often better that she gets an abortion. Doesn't mean it was bad parenting.. doesn't mean it wasn't. I'd agree that bad parenting does increase the likelyness of things like this happening.. but it doesn't cause it by itself, and good parenting wouldn't stop it by itself.

Below the legal age, good parenting does stop it. Yes. Because at that point you can still prevent it.

I agree. I'm not for abortions when it comes down to it I think. The number of girls having them increases every year and the girls are getting younger and younger. . . .

I read in one of those digest magazines that the majority of females who get abortions in America are teenage girls, probably because they feel as though they are too young to take care of a child. But there are tons of other options out there! There are great adoptions agencies, so good that you can even have an open adoption, that is, that the birth mother can be in the child's life as much (or less) as she wants. There are options out there. . .

It wouldn't say much for the parents if they were so indifferent as to have no idea what is going on.

Shhhhh! These 14 year olds, don't know that yet!

Hmmm, while I'm not really a supporter of abortions outside of those needed when there are serious health risks, I do understand the importance of doctor/patient confidentiality and trust. As a result, I don't think the parents should be told, unless of course the girl is underage - in which case technically the police should also be informed, from a legal view anyway.

And I'm not sure if everybody knows this or not, but it's been on, and in, all the news down here (Australia, New Zealand etc) these last couple of days. Basically a large scale, long running abortion research project has just concluded in New Zealand (the largest yet of it's type) at Christchurch (don't worry, it's the name of a location, nothing religious.) And it's turned up some surprising results that some are predicting will inflame the pro-life/pro-choice debate, although the researchers involved are warning that it's wrong to go to any extremes - yet.

Basically the study has revealed a significant increase in mental health problems in those who have abortions compared to those that don't...

Two newspaper articles

And the transcript from an ABC (Australian ABC) news interview:

Is that true? What if a 15 yo and her 16 yo boyfriend have sex and she gets pregnant - is there a legal obligation to inform the police?

Time permitting, I'll read your links. However, this statement alone I know to be fact. My aunt is ****ing nuts! And she has had two abortions, while she was in her late teens and mid 20's. Now that she is getting older(My mothers youngest sister, who is in her mid 30s) she has slowly gone insane. In her case, it's because(she says) that she never really wanted teh abortions, but her boyfriends talked her into it. Now, she is divorced, living in a house that belongs to my grandfather, and creating web pages about her two dogs...who she has pictures of all over the house, and talks to like they're human. Basically, she's so remorseful over the two lives she ended, that she lives with the guilt everyday...and it cripples her. I just feel bad for the two dogs, I mean, they always give me this "HELP US" look when I'm there.

Only if the girl says she was raped. If she goes to the clinic, and gets an abortion...and tells the doctor she was raped by the 16 year old boy, then yes, I think the doctor is obligated to tell the authorities, and at the very least teh girls parents. Otherwise, no legal action should be taken.

Parents should be informed, no question about it.

All else being equal, they have the wisdom of life experience, of years, to help deal with a very difficult situation.
That the minors got pregnant in the first place tells you something about how well they are managing their own lives.

in a perfect world i would vote "yes".

unfortunately a "yes" would certainly lead to more dangerous and illegal abortions and more newborn babies found in trashcans etc.

people who put babies in trash cans need to get tortured to death.........

Yeah? How could they torture someone like that?! They deserve torture for this torture!

-AC

how could they torture these people, u ask...........

ok, this is how to torture someone properly(sp?)

1. Cut their toes off and then force them to eat them. Same with the fingers.
2. gouge eyes out and then cut pieces of it off, force them to eat it. make little cuts about this:____________________ long and pour salt inside them, after tearing it open.
3. Have all the people that they dont likewalk in, spit on them, laugh and leave.
4. have them be raped by countless fat old men, who have all gotten a vesectamy(sp)
5. Then hang them by their hair for a vouple of days.
6. Let them starve to death.

If they did this to jus tone person, I would bet my life wee would only find one abandoned baby every 10 years or so. hmmm......i have a sadistic mind, but hey, whatever works..........this should be enforced for other things to, such as child molesters and rapists(excluding the rapists from step 4)
