I don't think they are a 'simple' band. Maybe their music isn't exactly Mars Volta-complex or anything, but I don't think that's a bad thing. A band doesn't have to be complex to be good, or great. Foo Fighter's aren't complex at all, maybe even less so than Green Day.
But I still think Green Day aren't a 'simple' band. I'm not saying all this because I like them. I like them because of it.

I'm not saying I dislike Green Day just because they're simple. I said I dislike them for the reason I dislike Coldplay. They're simple, in a boring way.
