Although they are California's State flower, poppies hold another honor in Canada; they are featured on the backside of their $20 currency note.

Poppies are actually considered to be a weed on land used for agriculture; however they are a welcomed weed because it shows that the soil is fertile and able to support growth.

Poppies have been known to be used as a form of holistic medicine in the treatment of muscle aches, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and more.

Because of their opium properties, even the smallest ingestion of Poppy seeds can result in a false reading on a drug test. Consequently, international travelers are advised not to carry them on airplanes. They are a prohibited good in Singapore.

Massive Poppy fields were featured in the film, The Wizard of Oz. There was even a whole chapter dedicated to the flower in the book version of the story titled "The Deadly Poppy Field."
