Superman Returns is gonna make a billion dollars worldwide, watch.

Gross projections...

(and yes, pun intended)

I'm afraid the Superman Returns will not touch the Billion dollar milestone.

My sources tell me that WB execs are already packing. You can opine all the live long day about why this movie didn't perform as expected, and you need only look as far as an unmotivated hero and an underwhelming villain. When your story lacks desire, you get, well, a French movie. I suppose it's pretty to look at the physical specimen of Mr. Routh and the admittedly impressive spectacle, but as Aristotle says in his Poetics, the least important element in moving the soul (his idea of what a story does) is spectacle and it is the crutch most poor story tellers rely on. As Eliot may have said "...distracted from distraction by distraction..." Alas.

I didnt see it because they took out the superman slogan . truth justice and the american way.

They took out 'The American Way' part, because that's become a loaded slogan these days. It can mean illegal invasions into other countries, to some people. 😖hifty: Plus, Superman may be American-based, but he's a hero for the world, which the movie touches on a bit.

apparantly its doing fine, dude u sound like a kid on a computer anyhow, so i aint trusting your sources, but i looked at its takings, its the highest warner brothers have had from any of their movies, so whatever i dont care its doing really well, sources my ass!

Sources

Dear Mr. Mattday,

If you mean by "doing fine" that it is grossly underperforming check out this: "On the anti-wow side, Superman Returns is off almost 80% from last Monday, albeit a holiday weekend, though Monday was not a national holiday and many people went to work (not so much here in Hollywood). The number was $2.7 million." To put that in perspective, P2 did 18.1 yesterday. Check out the Hot Blog.

Now, there is still hope, but the fall-offs were quite dramatic at nearly 60%...

However, I must add here, that the negative costs to which they admit were over $250 million (it was more) and the costs of P&A have never been higher--conservatively at $50 million.

Let us just say, sir, that Supes and WB should pray for "bofo" international.

I'm a touch concerned that you too quickly dismiss the sources as having something to do with my rear-end. Most confusing, if not a little off colour. Though I'm never one to be put off by a little bawdy humor, I should ask that you at least engage the discussion. We should remember that the HP series has grossed nearly $1 Billion per installment. Supes is not really going to come close to even "Prisoner" which was the least grossing film of the series at $789 Million (Stone: $976M, Chamber: $876M, Goblet $892M)

We would do well to remember that these films rarely "make" their money back domestically. It is the International BO that brings movies into the black. I don't think SR will get there...in fact, you can probably bank on it. The negative costs were simply too high.

And finally, I'm most certainly not a child, though I'm told that I need to learn to be "like a child" in order to enter the Kingdom. Cheerio!

hysterical hysterical hysterical hysterical hysterical

Current tally for Superman Returns:

$149,580,601 *Domestic*

$185,380,601 *Worldwide*

I wish it could have made as much money as Pirates of the Carribean

how how... wow!

Supes Returns Box Office

child to enter the kingdom... well i think your very odd

you claims are half truths and that I must declare to you to hush up and pay heed to your miserable and "mislead" sources, as I realise you are either a child or teenager with the angst to out wit someone on the internet, but simply put it this way, superman is kicking ass in england and this will help boost overseas feedback and it has good legs in America as if you look at it's day to day box office record, it is going up... you know why?

because there are more casual film lovers out there that go once a month (unlike geeks (minority thankfully) who most definitely go 8 times in 10 days to a film they like) and they are now done and dusted with pirates and are turning attention to superman its just a slow course for this film. call it a sleeper hit if you will. just check it out.

It opened second in the U.K. Opening weekend. Second place. Pirates in it's second week of release still managed more than the opening U.K. box office of Superman Returns.

In the U.S. in its third week it has already been relegated to 4th. The Devil Wears Prada, made on an eighth the budget of SR, is in 5th with only around a million less than SR.

As for the day to day box office going up. Utter bull. Only the delusional consider this film a financial success.

opened first place, pirates came after superman... well you already got things wrong, so im not taking you seriously, and batman begins wasnt an instant "wow" either, it took time... so your a hasty mother f u c ker i take it... f uck head

I doubt anybody takes you seriously halfwit. Batman Begins didn't fall %58 in it's second week. It didn't have any real competition to contend with and it didn't cost $250+ million dollars to produce.

"However in the United Kingdom it scored a solid number two bow behind the sophomore weekend of Pirates." Box Office Guru.

A number two bow, you juvenile moron. For someone who calls other people childish you certainly are quite the retard.

Careful, xmarksthespot. You might make MattDay's hitlist. He's the baddest 11 year old bare-knuckled ass-kicker other side of the pond. Beware his terrible Anglo wrath!

If by Anglo wrath you mean the massacring of the English language into baseless incoherent semi-verbal diarrhea then yes, I'm mortified.

Then again he may actually be, as appears, legally retarded in which case I'll just let the above slide, oh-so-clever use of expletives and all.

No more of that hostile behavior. I don't want to see anymore insults flying around like that again. All of you are warned.

It's on pace to get past $200 million in North America. And the IMAX 3D shows continue to be sold out - like The Polar Express was.

With all due respect, Wrathful Dwarf, I'm fine with not insulting people. However, if you're going to allow people like MattDay to stay on this board, that's kind of like saying you don't support terrorism, and then allow Hezbollah to set up shop in your back yard. MattDay has posted several time on several different Superman threads that he hopes people, including myself, get shot. He's also directly insulted and cursed out xmarksthespot for doing nothing other than quoting some box office numbers to him. Call me crazy, call me a damn dirty ape, but if people are allowed to say that they hope they can see you shot in the street or curse you out, without public reprimand, than I think a hostile response is in order.

Yes, because calling someone a halfwit when he clearly is one is obviously tantamount to referring to someone as "mother f u c ker i take it... f uck head" without any provocation.

$242 Million World-Wide.

Un-official budget cost $260 Million, I dont think it cost that much to make SR. According to Brian Singer and some WB officials it cost around 160-200 Million to make, so not sure on the actual figures.

They made their money back, and with DVD sales it will have been a profitable movie.
