No, still not close to making its money back yet. Studios don't take in anywhere near 100% of gross ticket sales. Plus, the film actually cost coniderabley more than $250 mil. to make and distribute. The figure you're quoting doesn't include pre-release marketing and ad campaigns. Add at least another $40 mil. to the cost structure just for the domestic side of this hype campaign. If SR makes its money back, it will be with DVD sales and merchandising, and just by the hair of its chinny chin-chin.
I read that Warner President Allan Horn expects Superman Returns to gross $400mil worldwide. A figure at least $100mil short of his expectations but that's because he lacks the faith i have.
And that as of Sept. 17, 2006 "S.R." has grossed $198mil domestically and $188mil internationally taking in about $386mil worldwide, so far.
So I may still be right because we still have 3 months left in the year and the DVD's coming soon and it's expected to sell really well.
And if you wanna count something else there's the "S.R." official video game based on the movie including all the same actors and it's being released for practically every gaming platforms like x360, Ps2, Ps3, Pc, etc.. So my prediction that started almost a year ago may come true.
We'll see..
