Yes, the Jedi in fact took Lanzar City by force, but it took years (mind you, there were only 200 of them, going back and forth as the months passed.) And no, just for once, not Yoda.

"Navigate our soldiers indeed! What rot. We'll just send them in en masse. Casualties in an operation of this nature are irrelevant! Let them die for the Emperor; victory will still be ours."

Commander Janthis shows a small smile of amusement at this. This man is fool he thinks.

"Casualties are not irrelevant. If we face too many casualties, this task force will not be operable for quite some time after, until the soldiers are replaced with fresh new faces ready to serve us. But that takes time; if our casualties are too great, it will not be a complete victory. It would be all the more crushing if we lost as few soldiers as possible to the swine."

Coll turns to the former clonetrooper. "Wouldn't you say so, Commander Janthis?"

"Yes sir I agree besides if we loose great numbers to savages that may not look to well across the galaxy. I mean if brutes can give casualties then someone else could think they may be able to do better."
"Besides I don't think we should underestimate these creatures. Obviously if we fight them in the open field with large armies we will win thanks to our superior technology and training. Although here we will be fighting against them in close quarter spaces where they know the terrain. Plus most of our walkers will be of little use. If these creatures are anything like Wookies which I think they are then they can very reasonably stalemate or even win should we be careless. Sir"

"No-one cares about dead stormtroopers! Only the glory of victory is important. We can easily get more manpower in; it is only hardware we need to be wary about. Glorious death to further the cause of the Empire is what life in the infantry is all about."

"Perhaps we should see what the Commissar thinks," says Atar. "Ultimately, he'll be making the appointments anyway."

"Good call, Atar," Coll says, and nods to Commander Janthis in approval.

Janthis returns the nod

I'm assuming that Trebeis is back on the bridge of the Deviator.

"Rhodes" Trebeis called, looking around the bridge. Within moments, the young man stepped up and Saluted. Nodding, the Captain started "Lieutenant Commander. I am not positive as to what sort of serious escape attempts we will face, but the moment we drop for Hyperspace, The Fighter-wings are to launched. As it is, there is the chance of ships already in orbit. If there is, it will be much easier to give chase with the TIEs." Moving to stand before the great View screen, he activated a Com-link. Addressing the entire ship, he began "Men of the Deviator. We face our first actual mission together. We may not have become accustom to the new conditions, but we have our orders, and a mission to complete. Success is likely, but do not become overconfident. And don't assume that nothing will challenge us. Such things will indeed spell failure, and failure is not and option. I emphasize that I have utmost confidence in all of you, the Deviator and my own abilities. But I also must stress this point. DO NOT FAIL." Clearing his throat, Atillian continued "Anyone that is found to have failed in his duties.... Will be put on maintenance duty- Checking the Hull of the ship for damage. WITHOUT an Environment Suit. That is all." He slowly cracked a grin, and continued watching the stars streak by.

*You have to go through the long process of creating a character for this (http://www.killermovies.com/forums/f7/t373524.html). And this RP is a bit more serious than most since it is run by the Star Wars RP forum's mod. Try not to post OOC here, though; that belongs in the "RP General Discussion" thread.
I'm not trying to scare you away or anything, just giving you warnings for if you are actually going to join.*

Is Commisar present at the meeting of infantry officers? I think Lomax should get defending the landing site, as it seems the easiest thing to do. (I should post more tomorrow)

You weren't at that meeting, no. But you can assign roles now if you wish.

*whistles innocently while slipping Commissar Esgabath a few credits...*

Currently I believe Coll should get the attack on Lanzar, Lomax defending the landing site, Atar the special tasks and general coordination.

"General Coll, I like tha fact that you made such detailed analysis about combat scenarios so soon. You seem to have a good understanding of fighting in difficult circumstances and you take your responsibility seriously. Your career was brilliant and I can`t imagine the possibility of failure." Melkor`s tone is slightly respectful but still stern and autorative as he compliments Coll.

"General Lomax, you will be responsible for important task of securing the landing site, and Senior General Atar should take care of ensuring coordination between our forces, including naval-infantry interaction. And if there will be the need for any "special" operations that Advance Team alone will be unable to achieve, it should be the responsibility of highest ranking officer.

"With respect," says Atar, "I could have made that analysis at any time- as soon as a plan for a ground landing was requested. Such a thing was not requested at the time, as the Commodore made clear when Coll's... over-enthusiasm got the better of him."

"So , do you have other suggestions, General? I am not expert on warfare, so I am willing to follow your judgement in certain areas."

"If you wish me to take an overall supervising role in the operation and for Coll to lead the ground force, then your wishes will be so; I just wanted to comment on some of the reasoning,"

A point of pride. Atar plays by the rules.

"In which case, I will need reports from Janthis on his plans for an extraction mission, and from Coll about how he wants to plan his advance through the Jungle and his attack plan; Coll will need to liase with Lomax, of course."

He turns to Melkor.

"Assuming we have the go-ahead to prepare a ground assault?"

Does Atar appear to be hurt by this? I think what I assigned for him is logical. Senior Officers often don`t come to battlefield themselves.

"Possiblility of ground assault is likely at some point, but many things depend on my talks with Senate Mission and possibly Drakkon. And I also liked Captain Tebeis`s ideas about using the naval capacity ."

It's a bit different in the Empire- Generals like to be at the head of their battles, feeling invincible in an AT-AT.

In fact, most SW Generals tend to go up front.

"Attention all personnel. Hyperspace departure point is in two hours precisely"

Planning (and the briefing of others that might need to carry out such plans) takes time, folks, so yu'll havr to make a few assumptions.

"Is there anything else you will need, General Coll?" asks Atar.

"Other than every available AT walker, our speeders, and my soldiers, I can think of very little else that I should require."

(Would probe droids be of any use for choosing a route through the jungle?)

You could try, but that's not what they are designed for.
