Marvel wants people who watched and enjoyed the movie to be able to pick up a comic and feel like they are reading extended adventures about the same character. It isn't a mistake that Bendis and Fractions Thor's are similar to each other but different from the majority of canon before. It is almost assuredly a conscious decision from the Marvel editorial staff to have a bridge between the movie and the comics.

Not really a great mystery.

Bendis' Thor is actually more in line with most of Thor's character depiction than Fraction's. That's one thing I have to give to Bendis; as much as he messes with power levels to suit his plots, character wise, he's been pretty decent with Thor. Unless you mean "Movie" Thor, who, personality wise, reflects Thor as a whole if you look at his history: arrogant and without humility at the beginning, and then learned his lesson thanks to Odin taking action.

It's no surprise that people who enjoy this new take on Thor seem to be people who generally haven't been following Thor for a long time or casual fans, though. And that's fine if that's their prerogative. But given the choice between a perpetually pissed, blood thirsty, and more willing to kill Thor who'll have a lot of combat feats versus a Thor who's come an incredibly long way from his reckless and needlessly aggressive years and has shown decades worth of character development, it's no contest as to who I'll pick.

Fraction's Thor takes pretty much the two last two majorly successful handlers of Thor, JMS and Dan Jurgens, and pitches out everything they did to further develop the character.

I don't appreciate your condescension jake. 😬

I can respect that. I'll admit that I don't mind Fraction's take at all really, but as I said I'm not necessarily a Thor fan. I will say that the actual story telling has seemed somewhat lazy and uninspired at times. Having said that, I can totally get why long time fans would be pissed about a perceived character regression.

Ignoring the irony of that comment, how was I being condescending?

If people like Fraction's Thor, so be it. Based on what I've read from people's comments here on KMC and people who frequent my local comic shops, most of the people who enjoy the current run of Mighty Thor tend to be people new to Thor in general or those who've not followed him in-depth for years; considering that relaunched title was designed to coincide with the release of the movie, I'm not surprised.

But for the majority of people who have followed Thor and his exploits for years, it's a pretty OOC handling on the character. That's pretty indisputable.

Fraction's basically trading characterization and depth in favor of battles and feats (and even those are meh). Thor's my favorite character and I'll gladly admit it, but I'd rather have good stories in favor of Thor just kicking everyone's ass in some bipolar fashion.

You made it seem like the only people who would like fraction's thor had to be casual...whereas a true fan (aka yourself) preferred bendis thor.

Most of the people who do like Fraction's Thor are casual fans. I'm sure they're probably a few people who are hardcore Thor fans who like his run, but most of the fans I know of outside myself have had more criticisms than not. Even people who aren't really into Thor have said that the dialogue ranges from cringe worthy to outright terrible. That being said, there's nothing wrong with liking Fraction's Thor. I just strongly disagree with it.

Secondly, Bendis' Thor is basically just Thor as he appears in his events and Avengers comics; he's not an authority on the character by himself. That being said, his characterization of Thor is more in line with Thor's overall history than Fraction's.

The fact that Deadpool is used to define "silly" and "a joke character" is even more sad. Once was a serious character. At least Herc hasnt fallen THAT low.

Admittingly I like the more serious DeadPool. Luckily X-Force is doing him some justice. I hate that cartoony Deadpool who fights stupid looking villains like that vampire cow thing.
