All he did was grab them. Had he taken a full on haymaker slash which according to Wolverfans is less than a jab stab and is always a glancing blow no exception, it would have more merit.

Ah Carver (wish Marvel would bring him back)! He's another one. Wolverine did hurt his eye though 🙁 So we have Simon, Carver, and Ethan that weren't cut by Wolverine's claws.
Maybe comics are like DnD with : Slashing, Piercing, Bludgeoning damage types? Simon/Carver/Ethan seem to have superior slashing/piercing damage.
