It's not about drawing better. His drawings aren't bad per se, it's just so "lifeless", "loveless" and "uninspired". I'm sure he could do it better, much better, it just seems he doesn't really care and does his job. Maybe if they would allow him to draw a popular hero, a hero he likes?
This one is pretty decent for example
I might not be a better artist than Liefeld, but I'm pretty sure I have a better understanding of anatomy. The guy is horrible for it.
Or does that not count?

Portacio on X-Men was the bomb, imo. I still love his work to this day, even as exaggerated as it was.
I don't think the argument that if you're not better at something than someone else, you should abstain from criticising their efforts, is valid.
I be crap at drawing and be very good at spotting crap efforts, which is why I don't make much of an effort myself and why I would consider Liefeld's 'work' quite horrendous.
