"The devil made me do it"

I don't understand what part of my post you found unclear.Do I need to dumb it down for you or something? Were the words too big?
There's a fine line between condescending and seemingly crying in fron of the monitor. You're not very good at the former.

Thor got beat up, true
He engaged the Phoenix and got one-shotted. "Beat up" doesn't really cover that.

a second fight could potentially occur under a writer with a completely different outlook on things and power levels.
Even with the terrible Marvel editors, you think that one writer will show Thor getting one-shotted, while another one will at least show him getting the advantage, in the same event?

And I can give you a long detailed list of Thor fighting enemies that have gone from giving him trouble to outright punking him only for the tables to turn.
Can you show me one of Thor knowing the threat level right from the start, engaging that opponent alongside a team, getting one-shotted badly, accepting that they're all about to die in the process - and then in the next fight, at least gain the advantage against the same opponent, solo?

Now I don't expect Thor to ever beat the Phoenix, I never did, but expecting him to put up a better fight is extremely reasonable.
No, it is not. As I said, he can only go up from getting one-shotted. But that's not what you said - you said you hope he "at least gets the advantage" the next fight.
That's delusional.

Regarding the battle, Thor's not as limited as Superman
You're not very good at getting a rise out of people, either. I almost wanted to post an angry smilie face, just to make you feel better. Would it?
