There's really no reason to be upset at the fact that Thor was beaten by Phoenix. After all, Phoenix is an upper-echelon cosmic/abstract being (and it's certainly being hyped more during this arc, then it has ever been before.)

Phoenix should be able to effortlessly trounce Thor.

I mean, let's just be glad the real premier team in the Marvel Universe isn't in this shit.

The F4 would kick its avian ass. Before or after Doom stole its power.

Fortunately, I don't have that much emotion invested into this.

Apologies, I'll make sure to work on my condescension.

Spoiler:
That was me practicing sarcasm.

He engaged the Phoenix and got one-shotted. "Beat up" doesn't really cover that.

An accurate enough summary.

Even with the terrible Marvel editors, you think that one writer will show Thor getting one-shotted, while another one will at least show him getting the advantage, in the same event?

😂

Oh man, you have more faith in Marvel than I do.

Can you show me one of Thor knowing the threat level right from the start, engaging that opponent alongside a team, getting one-shotted badly, accepting that they're all about to die in the process - and then in the next fight, at least gain the advantage against the same opponent, solo?

I'm not sure about being with a team at the time of engagement but it's not the first time Thor has gotten thoroughly owned by an enemy he knew was extremely powerful only to overcome the odds when the situation called for it.

Actually, scratch that. I do have an almost perfect example, Thor's second battle with the Destroyer after it kills him in battle despite assistance from the Avengers. He handles business when he is revived, although he had the element of surprise because he was dead as far as they knew.

No, it is not. As I said, he can only go up from getting one-shotted. But that's not what you said - you said you hope he "at least gets the advantage" the next fight.

That's delusional.

Yes it is. If you chose to disagree, that's your prerogative, but denying the possibility in itself is just plain stupid.

Well, then I'll clarify what I meant: I hope Thor puts up a better fight, and at one point during the battle, gains the edge. By edge, I mean he turns the tide briefly, because as most know, the Phoenix has to come to Earth for this event to reach a head.

You're not very good at getting a rise out of people, either. I almost wanted to post an angry smilie face, just to make you feel better. Would it?

On reflection, this was my fault, I shouldn't have mentioned Superman at all, Hulk would have been even more appropriate. I was honestly trying to find an example of a powerful but limited (Compared to Thor) Top Tier. Forgot the company I was in for a moment though.

That conversation became... much friendlier. Someone throw a knife!

Love that Captain Britain was more G than even Thor. Head on into the Phoenix and ended up no worse the wear while Thor ended up in a full body cast 👆

More Brian is good for Marvel.

Hey, Captain Britain was never blasted in the freaking face by the Phoenix at point blank range or used as a makeshift shield!

He also couldn't hope to hold the Phoenix at bay even momentarily like Thor did.

Nah I kid. It was a nice moment of him trying to come through with quick thinking and resourcefulness. Although it seems like he devolved a bit from the M13 days though. Man, that was an awesome run, too bad it was cancelled.

If you'd be rage, now you'd be hoping that next time they meet, Captain Britain at least stomps the shit out of Phoenix. 😂

Lol. Nah, I don't personally have a problem with "fundamental cosmic forces" oneshotting minuscule beings. But that's just me I guess...

Well, I don't know about effortessly......

Nah, I kid. For the most part, Phoenix would usually own Thor, and as it stands, he still put up a better fight than almost any High Herald would in his situation.

The argument stems from me hoping Thor puts up a better showing and Philo arguing about the mere possibility. The nice thing to do would be to let a fanboy have his daydream.

Thor's powerful, but he's still a herald-level being. Phoenix's power is well beyond that. It is in the realm of cosmic/abstract (no less than a well-written Galactus-level)--and judging by how much its power is being hyped by pretty much EVERYONE so far, it is likely beyond even THAT level, imho.

If Hulk beat Punisher in an arm-wrestling match, I wouldn't consider it a low showing for Punisher. Feelz me?

Fair enough, Phoenix fluctuates but it's getting hyped as an ultimate Cosmic Entity during this event, it's getting more rep than Galactus has in decades. It's not too bad, Thor actually holds it at bay and survives direct attacks.

The one Herald so far (Terrax) was incinerated just by it flying past his planet, as long as Gladiator does far worse like him, I'll be fine. 😄

One thing that gets to me though is that I know Thor can do better and has more useful tools at his disposal. I guess it gives my imagination more to work with and lends the idea of Thor having a better outing the second time more credibility.

Seconded. Let Cypher beat that pussy.

Can you imagine if Gladiator tanks Phoenix's attacks and does better than Thor?

It's becoming apparent that Hulk and Superman fans bring up Thor's low showings far more often than I do for those two. Maybe it's because I like both of them and don't really place that much value on outliers.

Still, maybe I should find my low showings folder and refresh the boards memory.

ahah

You have an entire folder on superman's low showings? How flattering!
