The entire AvX event was a poke in the eyes of long time comic book( and especially X-Men) fans. That should be reason enough to assume that Thor's recent low showings are an attempt to rub salts in the wounds of his internet fanbase(most of which is located on Alvaro).

I also have to ask: was this particular scene with the Thing written by Bendis? If so then it's somewhat excusable because Bendis has shown in recent times that he has a very low opinion about Thor's capabilities. Nothing to get overtly butthurt about.
