Marvel's grown lazy and panders to the dumb majority nowadays and honestly, the majority of Hulk fans are probably like Carver. Waid's probably a great choice, as long as he reinforces that Banner is smarter than everyone, and Hulk's more powerful than anyone.
Thor has great feats, but they've always been secondary to the story. Compare the current Hulk title to the Thor title to see the different appeals. Underneath the surface there's obviously a great deal of power going on (The God Butcher can decimate entire pantheons, even ones who wrestled with the black holes for fun etc.) and like usual it's on a far greater scale than Hulk stories but ultimately the comic is about Thor facing a terrifying foe that might even finally break him.
In conclusion, Hulk fans = dumb kids and Thor fans = mature adults.
