The Ultimate Universe has been shit since Ultimatum-- heck, even before that it had been stale for a while. I can't imagine it being lucrative at all for Marvel to maintain these days.
The Hickman reboot of Ultimates was epic. Probably one of the best 7 or 8 issues of recent years. But apparently they were unlucky enough to launch at the same time as DC rebooted and got completely swamped publicity wise. Then Marvel offered Hickman the 616 Avengers so him and Ribic left and some chump finished off his story etc.
I still really like his Avengers/New Avengers thing but as he said one of the things about the Ultimate Universe was that they were allowed to do pretty much whatever they wanted (kill all of Asgard in issue 1? - check). And knowing Hickman it would have been an epic storyline so its a shame we'll likely never know how it would have turned out. And of course Ribic on art never hurts.

Its like Grant Morrison's JLA with Avengers characters thrown haphazardly with no character moments or uber villains to make it shine. Hickman is trying to pull a Grant Morrison and is failing spectacularly.
He's trying to pull a Legion of Super-Heroes, because that's what he's a fan of.
I don't find any of his uber guys are well defined or have a role. In the uberest of JLAs, people still had roles and you knew what they were about. These Avengers are off-the-hook powerful, but you have no idea why he sends a Hyperion or a Thor to fight big bad in any one fight? Or leaves Hulk just sitting around doing nothing. And we have no idea how powerful Captain Universe or Starbrand are at all.
