By a cheap shot who was dead in a hole basically. Fett ran away and had a starship with boba shooting at him, and he still ran away from Kenobi.

Maul died because he was an overconfident boob. Just like how in that Vader picture the only reason Vader could stab Maul through himself was because Maul decided to monologue after beating him and left himself wide open. He almost dies a few more times through sheer arrogance too.
But then, in one of the novels Maul thinks that he can solo the entire Jedi Temple by himself, including Yoda and Mace Windu. He's kind of stupid. 😬
