That's the argument Obi haters use all the time, they always lose to Kenobi, he never beats them mmm
TBH, i'm actually a huge Obi-Wan mark. I thought the Clone Wars didn't show nearly enough of how bad-ass he was, and all we got were flashes (like his fight against Maul and Oppress). I actually think he was, as a Padawan, very close to being Maul's equal even without that whole "tapping in to his rage" thing.
That leap over Maul from inside the tube, though? What the hell was Maul thinking?

I could be wrong, but in the Revenge of the Sith novelization, I could have sworn the narration cited Obi-Wan in being one of the greatest swordsmen of his age. I'm also pretty sure Windu himself stated this at one point or another, too. In any case, it's not like he sucked or anything.
He is. In fact, I would argue that he's a better saber duelist than all but the top 3 or 4 in the prequels. I even put him above Anakin.

Obi-Wan is definitely among the finest lightsaber duelists in the prequels. His soresu was flawless. If I remember correctly Windu told Kenobi something along the lines of "Who is the real master? One who comes up with a new style or the other who masters an old, classic style?"

Cmon now we all know Maul had a win Obi and had defeated him fare and square. Obi got a cheap shot.
Maul had an advantage, yes, but at the time he was more experienced than Obi-Wan. In fact, it was a force move, not a saber move, that gave him his advantage.
Look at what Obi did as the sequels progressed; by Episode 3, Obi-Wan was a beast in saber combat.
If you put ROTS Obi up against TPM Maul, I have no doubt Obi would beat him pretty solidly.

What blame? How was that not a cheap shot? He lost his own lightsaber, had to steal his masters to finish the fight.
It wasn't a cheap shot because Maul had plenty of time to hit Obi-Wan when he leaped out of the pit and over him.
Remember when Anakin tried the same thing on Kenobi?

That's the difference between a powerful defensive duelist that knows your fighting style and a half cooked offensive one that imagines that a soresu user won't go offensive from a worse position.
Sadly at this time I realize we should probably keep the SW discussion of the Ownage thread 😬

I like Maul too; I just think how he died was completely inconsistent with how he fought before.
Typical Prequel fight though; tons of bad writing in them.

Yep.
And yes, it is. We really should be going back to not-debating...
Typical George Lucas bullshit. Maul went out like a FKN punk after being a badass throughout the entire movie. I am still pissed and feel he was wasted. No wonder S. Jackson didn't want to be Windu unless Lucas made him go out with a bang. That lame Boba Fett ending must have been a warning.
Same thing happened to Obi-Wan when he fought Dooku. I don't mind the guy losing but he went out like such a punk lol. To be honest I was geniuinely scared Lucas would just have Anakin own obi-Wan right until the end where he would slip into the volcano and voila.

Maul had some sick unrealized force powers. He basically stopped Obi's forward progress with force push while taking on Qui Gon, flying around and dual wielding and taking on two very powerful Jedi's..
They killed him off and it sucked, he had potential.

This is the ownage thread; I am getting tired of warning you about your off-topic behaviour.
Especially since Bada only sees one hero in SW:

At the time of the Clone Wars, and the Jedi order on the Republic, Windu was one of the most powerful duelist of all time. He was equal or little below Yoda.
The reason Windu was so good a duelist was because of his style, the Vaapad. That's why when he fought Palpatine, he almost won if not for Anakin's interference.
In fight, Windu would kick the shit out of Maul, Anakin, Vader, and Obi. Not at the same time of course.
