things just have to be more cut n dry, these mega elaborate fights are hard to judge so it's better for weaker characters in these things. the last tournament to finish was the one you "won" so it's testament to the notion that weak characters are best for today's judgesps. Ultimo is clearly stronger than iron man level, in fact you even posted him fighting various IM all at once , something I found AFTER the initial phases of drafting. dark angel is a legit low herald
Simpler tournies could help. Agreed there. But that isn't the only problem. It's still an uphill battle. But like I said, best of luck.
Agreed about Ultimo's strength, but he's a one-trick pony. Big, tough, and not much else. IM is above him on versatility, as are others in the tier, but not because of brawler capability. Newer versions of IM have handled Ultimo's best fairly well, feats that others have brought up in the tourney. Outside of Hulk and maybe 1-2 others, it's very, very hard for what amounts to a pure brick to be considered any level of herald.
And you may be right about Angel. But she has a lot of bad showings as well. I just had the benefit of drafting someone not many others knew about. The point of drafts are to push limits, though. Not cheat - nothing I do is ever willfully duplicitous - but to get as much as I can given the rules of the tourney. If my picks give people that itchy "they might be in the higher tier" feeling, it just means I'm doing my job. And if you're complaining about Ultimo/Havok, it's not like I was picking obscure characters. If they're low herald, how did they get past 12 or so participants and judges who are well-versed in these characters? I knew Angel might be too much, though, but I knew she'd be close either way. But I had other options. The point was her particular power set, and how it amped Havok and covered my other weaknesses, not her starting power level.
I get that you hold a grudge for whatever reason, but I've always tried to be up front about this stuff. The main draw of my amalgam was the way I complimented and amped them, not the individual parts. The point of it was to find specific powers that meshed well. The exact starting power level of each character was somewhat ancillary. Other characters would have filled in nicely had any of these been banned.
If you want to continue this, though, we should probably do so via PM. I'm tired of publicly defending myself after we had weeks to dispute picks in the tourney, after the tourney is over, and in an unrelated thread where you decided to drag us into this after I made a joking comment. Because now we're arguing about something that should be a lot less contentious, and reminding everyone why what should be one of the coolest things we do on the forums have, in the last 4 years or so, been very little outside of petty squabbling and outsider apathy.
