Aside from those you mentioned, most of Marvel's titles are the definition of mediocrity, at best. As for DC: all I follow consistently atm are JL, JLA, Deathstroke, and Green Lantern(which has been excellent, btw.)

Tbh, if you prefer quality comics, Indie is the way to go. LOTS of excellent titles there. 👆

No Midnighter? It's waaaay better than Deathstroke.

Never been a fan, so I have no real interest in the character.

I think you like mystic/street level stuff. Gotham By Midnight is also excellent.

GBM is over, I personally prefer Deathstroke to Mids as well.

Image comics is number one right now imo.

This. The big companies are always a mixed bag, with more fluff than great stuff. But their main draw is the shared universe and recognizability of the characters. The history and draw of the characters does count for something.

But really, if you are trying to mine Marvel/DC for top quality, you're working too hard for too little payoff; and that's true of pretty much any era.

Probably, yes.

Been reading TWD from issue 1. It doesn't get boring.

What are some of your favourite comics from Indie companies?

Anything printed by Valiant is quality.

So far, I've been very happy with ANAD Marvel. Amazing Spider-Man, Hercules, Vision, New Avengers, Angela: Queen of Hel and Sam Wilson: Captain America have all been solid to great reads. Nova and Deadpool efen have my interest and I'm still looking forward to a lot more titles coming out.

Chew. Excellent comic.

It's hard for a lot of people to step out of their Marvel/DC comfort zone--it's all they've ever known, really. But once you make that proverbial 'leap of faith' to Indie, you'll find that it's well worth it.

They don't make the indies I used to like anymore. 🙁

let's also not forget about spawn, ninjak, TMNT, darkhorse's star wars, judge dredd, transformers, and the tick.

Also:
Archie(revamp)/Afterlife With Archie, Chrononauts, Elephantmen, Masks, Colder, Nameless, American Vampire, Lazarus, The Wicked + The Divine, pretty much anything from Valiant, etc. etc. etc.

SO many good titles.

I'm on my phone, but I'll have to put together a list later. The "great reads no one knows about" thread in the comics forum is a good start though.

But It's why Flashpoint killed DC for me. There were, and still are, good titles. But if you're following a company, you're slogging through a lot of junk too. But I was willing to do it because I was invested in the characters. There was a shared history that I had followed for years. And that's something many indie titles struggle with, even while their shorter-run stuff is amazing. So wiping the slate clean, while making sense from a business perspective, basically destroys the reason the big companies appeal to me.

Marvel may keep me, because, for example, it looks like Spidey's canon remains unbroken. Bc I don't need another Spider-Man origin, or teenage coming-of-age story. But I'm happy to see the character I grew up with continue to evolve and mature, even while the company around him flails in mediocrity as a whole. That's the one fix I don't get from Indies, great as they can be.

Can't believe I forgot American vampire. And just 3 issues in and yes, Archie is really phucking awesome (with Mark Waid and Fiona Staples how could you go wrong?) I recently checked the first graphic novel of Ninjak, pretty sweet comic. Also Deadly Class.

What I've started to appreciate about Image and other indie companies is it's an idea pool where the creators can really let their imaginations run wild.
