Character Ownage

You'd think Emma Frost tinkering in his mind for long periods of time would have found something... or the numerous other telepaths. Plus the girls he put his penis in. What is he like 40 in comics and he's just now realizing he likes penises but has never had one?

Bendis must have seen that Family Guy skit and figured he could drag that out for a year.

I'd say about 30 but yeah, it's very strange.

Secret Wars #7 Preview

The whole gay thing is part of some stupid demographic crap. Just like the Asian Hulk, Thor being a chic.

Companies now are trying to please that demographic by shitting on loved characters that's been around for yrs just to please a few morons with loud voices that were scare off.

Comics isn't the only one that feeling that pressure.

Check this, am Black, and Superman is my number 1 Superhero, but i sure as hell wouldn't want the main Superman to turn Black just to ****ing please Black people.

it's not about the pleasing a certain demographic. It's about bends being a moron and deciding to fill the page with things like this.

Also, there are actually two realities in which superman is black and both versions are awesome. I do see what you're saying but I just wanted to point that out.

This is the correct answer. If it were just about "pleasing a demographic" then Alonso wouldn't balk at saying Angela was a lesbian/bi-sexual.

You know the only retcon I could think of to this was teenage Jean being mentally fragile and was making Bobby homosexual by messing about with his mind. Whether that is realistic or not it could be something that may happen. But knowing how this is going I doubt it.
I thought something similar when I first saw it, that with the way they did it, that it might have been caused by a psychic messing with his head for some as yet unrevealed reason. The whole story doesn't exactly fit with past history (not that hacks like Bendis care).

He's been suspected to be gay by fans for years, anyway.
What, Bendis? People have said it but I'm not sure they are actually serious. On the other hand in that same issue where Iceman talks about hiding being gay all his life, Bendis talks about making 'confessions' about himself in his writing and having done autobiographical work. He chose this particular issue to say that.

If X-Men is ever going to be saved, the incoming writer is going to have to do some MASSIVE retconning just to make things bearable. It's sad just how much damage they've done to what at one point was my favourite comic.
I honestly can't see existing X-Men continuity ever being good again with everything they've done.

It actually is. Certain groups are actually crying there's not enough strong Female characters in comics and gaming, and movies.

DC had to removed a Batgirl cover because it was so called too graphic depiction of a woman being hurt.

I know of Harvey Dent, don't know about the second one, and yes Bendis is an idiot.

on the other, its ****ing iceman, that mother****er hasnt been relevant in years. At least they are doing something with him
This, basically. We can wait to see how Iceman's conversations with fellow X-Men and former girl hookups and relationships are handled, but it is at least an interesting take on his character. I like Iceman, but for years he's just been around.

Plus, like Stilt said, this isn't the first time I've heard a 'gay Iceman' theory fielded. If they need to increase gay visibility by making an 'A' list character gay, then I actually think Iceman's a good fit.

Honestly, they can do it with new staff. Just blame the Phoenix. It would account for a surprising amount of shit that you could wipe away and bring the characters back in to a better state.

I'm aware and never claimed these groups didn't exist. That doesn't correlate into every change being done simply to please them. This is a Bendis thing, pure and simple.

And there is a lack of strong female leads when compared to the number of male ones, that's pretty undeniable. Things have been changing over time but the action genre is dominated by straight, white males.

Yeah, there are SJW influences in comics, but Bendis doesn't strike me as one of them.

Exactly.

Also I would add that all SJW/PC influences aren't bad. The new Ultimates looks to be a great book and the New Avengers is fun so far. Hell, even Black Panther was created with a "PC agenda."

"SJW" does come from a well-meaning place in part, so there are going to be good examples, obviously. Just plenty of bad ones too, sadly.

The only issue I have is when they change existing shit that was perfectly fine before to cater to these "agendas". I'd rather they make new shit rather than hurt existing stuff.

Me too but I understand why they feel the need to change existing properties. Unfortunately, fans don't always give brand new concepts a fair try. We'll buy comics that are horrible just because it says X-Men or Superman on the cover.

Yeah, and that only hurts as it breeds complacency.

Agreed.

I'm a big fan of progression and allowing new characters to take the spotlight. I seem to be in the minority, though.

I think there's room for both, tbh.

I'll always want Clark Kent to be Superman, for example, but I have no problem making the Superman Family bigger by adding new members.

More? 874 isn't enough?
