The whole 2yr run has them utilizing transluminal space to travel faster than light. Apparently the writer has been treating faster than light travel for the lanterns by utilizing "transluminal space". I know you have been reading this series so it's a little odd that you are acting like this hasn't been the case.

The Guy Gardner scene doesn't actually show how fast they were going. It just has a mention of some transluminal engine Space Cabbie has in his craft. For all we know he just got out of transluminal space or about to go into said space before Guy snared him.
Bottom line is there's a reason they utilize transluminal space. If they could easily travel at speeds massively beyond light in regular space, there would never be a need to utilize them... At least this is how Venditti seem to be treating faster than light travel. Comic inconsistencies.
Hence my interpretation of the Lightray chase.

Quasar also has impressive absorbing abilities and he got murdered by Annihilus in Annihilation. Jobbing is still jobbing, these fights could be better written and more respectful on all the characters involved.
