Nanny is a robot created by Magneto. Putting the X-men in power inhibiters and letting Nanny slowly drive them insane was his revenge for being turned into an infant that time.
After beating all eight of them at once (Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Beast, Colossus, Banshee and Phoenix) soundly of course.
