Huh? Which statements are these? One of the scans has a busted link so I could've missed something. But as far as what I did see, Thor was exhausted, the Hulk was bloodied, he says I can't beat you, never could blah blah, Hulk says I knew, Thor powers up and they both charge at each other for the coup de grace. Hulk gets blasted into space, Thor passes out. There is no subtext for any BFR out of necessity. None at all.
On a more serious note, trying to ignite carver's fanboy meltdown aside, the issue showed what I don't think anybody should contest at this point - while Thor is capable of going toe to toe with Hulk physically, he will eventually lose, and this showing along with his concession should put an end to that. Yes, many will say "but the hammer can do lots of shit" but all things considered, Thor hits things, throws the hammer and uses lightning. That's how he fought Hulk. That's how he fights Surfer in his main series. That's how he went up against Sentry. That's his main way of fighting in the actual comics, rather than the forum mode, and through those lenses should the "I can't beat you" statement be taken.
Also, nobody can really contest the fact that Thor was going all-out here. He directly said to Hulk that he wanted to kill him, and just moments earlier he killed Ben Grimm if not for Franklin, who he also directly stated he liked much better than Hulk. He just couldn't, physically, put Hulk down, and there's really no shame in that. If the Hulk is physically superior - which he should be, then that means that in future confrontations, like in this one, Thor won't go "I hit you and you hit me back!" mode with him, which can lead to better fights than just a slugfest - and the ending, with him smartening up and hitting him into outerspace before he lost the fight, was a good change, for one.
This was one of those fights where both opponents looked formidable (too bad for Thing) but I don't really expect either side to find the middle ground.
