Sidious - The Debate

Erm.....Kadann? Not in his wildest dreams.
Why, why WHY they brought him back will elude me eternally

What do you mean?

Kadann originated in the godawful kids' series, died ther....came back, died again....but then they decided THAT Kadann wasn't the real Kadann and the real Kadann lives...

What's next, Jerec?

Yes, I tried to find the series and read it, but found only extremely expensive hardcovers.
I'd like to read it, though, despite some negative comments. Sometimes I'm interested in controversial works.

i think the problem with arguing scientifically about star wars is that its a fictionl universe, and with different writers its hard to take anything at face value, they have different opinions and all want their characters to be the best. if you really look you will probably find very contradictory things from different scources, so i think the best way to decide is to look at it from the perspective of the person who created the star wars universe.

george lucas created the emperor, darth sidious is the only sith lord in the time since darth bane that has been able to acomplish their ancient goal. i think he was designed to be the most powerful sith lord the galaxy has known. while his methods are more directed at manipulation and forseeing the future he was able to defeat the most powerful jedi master on the councel in one to one combat. in a head to head fight im sure there were other sith lords who were better, at combat, but his powers were developed in a different way for a different purpose.

i think sidious is the most powerful sith lord since bane, and possibly ever. in a fight he might not be the most experienced or have the most combat skill, but i think his mastery of the force is equal to or greater than almost any other sith lord.

i heard an analogy that kind of fits. if don king and albert einstien were to play chess, einstein would win, but don king would own the board, the building they were in and hed make millions from promoting it. at the end of the day einstein would have won a game of chess, but don king would be far better off. i think thats kind of like sidious, one on one he might lose to some more aggressive and military minded sith, but in the end he will have manipulated all the events and planned for every outcome and he would be better off. it is his ability to forsee and manipulate that make him the greatest danger and the most successful opponent the jedi order ever faced, not his combat skills. but even then he proved he was a match for any jedi alive.

I generally don't like EU, and I generally dont post in these forums. But this topic interested me since Darth Sidious is my Favorite Star Wars character of all time. I've been reading through this whole thread and this post is possibly the most intelligent thing I've seen in the EU forums. So much so that I HAD to comment on how good it was.

Congrats man, I really think this post technically ends this whole thread and puts everything into a VERY interesting perspective. Its so good I would find it extremely difficult to dispute anything about this post even if I wanted to.

Bravo

Lightsnake makes better debate posts.

So is Sidious the greatest Sith who lived or not?

Who destroyed the Jedi order and conquered the galaxy? Can any other Sith have made this claim?

I agree with Anomaly, decay made the best point of the thread so far.

Palp's was perhaps not the most powerful Sith by saber skills, or raw power. But he accomplished what no other Sith was able to do, despite their prowess: destroy the Jedi, and conquer the Republic.

That makes Sidious the best because no other Sith conquered the galaxy and turned the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire

With this kind of logic, Xim the Despot could pwn everyone. Afterall, he did rule the entire known galaxy before the Republic even existed, a much more impressive feat than simply engineering a war and a coup from the inside.

Xim ruled the galaxy? If you mean 'a weak group of planets with hardly any military or strength'
And ruled? He attempted to take it over and forged a kingdom...until he met the Hutts.

Decay's point wasent so good for the fact that "Sidious ruled the galaxy" Thats all been said before.

The main reason his post was so good was when he said this:

he might lose to some more aggressive and military minded sith, but in the end he will have manipulated all the events and planned for every outcome and he would be better off. it is his ability to forsee and manipulate that make him the greatest danger and the most successful opponent the jedi order ever faced, not his combat skills. but even then he proved he was a match for any jedi alive.

What hes saying is; so yea, MAYBE Sidious would not win in a head to head fight with Kun, or Ragnos etc. The difference is that when the head to head fight came Sidious would have manipulated all the events leading up to the head to head fight (a la Mace Windu) and be better off for it. Even if he loses.

So even if he loses, he wins. And he already knows that he wins.

Thats why hes better.

Sidious does not beat you in a straight fight. He already has you beat before you even get to the fight.

He's needs some moistueriser.

Sure looked to me like sids beat kolar, Kit, and Tin in a straight fight.

That's not what he said nor implied Calvin.

1 order of "sense o' humor" coming up.

he said Sidious does not need to beat you in a straight fight. Does not and did are too different things
