Chapter 1: The Beginning
It was a very dark night in Blade City as the clouds covered the stars, a storm warning had told of a unique series of rain storms for the next year. The streets were empty, the street lights were on, the entire city was eerily silent as its many residents got their sleep, ready for whatever the next day would bring them. The moment the Big Ben replica struck midnight a car sped through a traffic light, the driver was Henry Tremas, a cruel father who had married twice and killed both of his wives and got away with it. There was little punishment for crime in Blade City, it happened every day, and continued to happen. In the back seat of the car was a boy no older than 10 who was severely beaten and injured, this boy was Carl Tremas. Carl Tremas was raised without a mother. She had apparently died during his birth. Carl, however, doubts that. Carl Tremas has always been a goodhearted boy, he never snapped back at his father, no matter how badly he treated him, Carl had simply accepted things like that. However, tonight was different, Carl had no idea what came over, him, but when his father got after him for breaking the stove when Carl was in his room all day, Carl argued that it couldn't’t possibly be him because he’s been in his room all day, Henry got furious and beat his son to a pulp before him and then dragged him to the car and told him that he would dump him into the forest to die. Carl couldn't’t move, he was too injured to even try, all because his father couldn't’t take responsibility for his own actions, it was only Carl and Henry after all, before tonight anyway, although, Carl could sometimes hear a little girl somewhere in the house when he was cleaning, but he paid it no mind. The car came to a stop as Carl opened his eyes and spotted the forest into view. Carl knew his father was a bad man, but he had never imagined that he could be this bad. Carl felt intense pain and shouted as his father grabbed him and forced him to the front seat and threw him out. Carl landed so hard that he bounced and rolled for a while. When he had stopped, he sound of a car door closing and driving off could be heard to those nearby. Carl just laid there, hoping that death would come before the Koori Batsu. Carl heard terrible stories about the Koori Batsu, a clan that had lived in the forest of Blade City. Legend has it that they are strictly territorial and will kill anybody who treads on their territory, even a child. The Koori Batsu practiced the method of freezing objects and had their own forms of magic markings and seemingly knew everything there is to know about the world. The Koori Batsu were a ruthless and terrible group who, many believe, have walked the path of evil since their existence. Three hours had passed by, and Carl had become deathly cold, but he still remained to be alive. Carl began to hear footsteps as he lay there, shivering in pain and fear as the footsteps drew nearer and nearer until Carl had finally heard voices, although, he could not see the people who were talking, he just lay there and listened to the conversation, “Another child, what shall we do with him?” “He resembles the prophecy very well. We have to take him to the Grand Master.” “He doesn't’t come close to the prophecy, how are we supposed to know who he is? He certainly isn’t the vanquisher of evil.” Carl’s eyes widened at these words. ‘The vanquisher of evil?’ What was that supposed to mean? Did the Koori Batsu see everything a different way? Were they only seen as evil simply because they were territorial? Were they just joking? No, they certainly didn’t know that he could hear their every word. “If he is the prophecy, then we should take him to the grand master, it’s better to do that than to kill him if he is the prophecy.” “Why must you always suggest that this boy could be the vanquisher of evil? If he isn’t, the grand master will become very upset with us.” “You don’t know that, and he’ll be even more upset with us if we are to kill him if he is.” “Hmm . . . You do have a point there. All right, we will take him with us, and the Grand Master can confront him there.” Shortly after this conversation, Carl felt another intense pain as the two people picked him up. Carl closed his eyes and passed out from the pain. When Carl came to he was in a large room, and for some strange reason, he was able to move again, as if he had been healed. Carl pushed himself up and looked around, he noticed that there was no way in or out. In front of him were large steps that reached a throne at the top. Carl squinted his eyes, he could have sworn that somebody was sitting in the throne. A voice echoed throughout the room, “Carl Tremas, stand.”, it said. Carl looked around when he heard it and it was then that he realized that somebody WAS sitting in the throne. Could this have been the Grand Master that the two Koori Batsu members were talking about in the forest? If so, then why was he here? How did he know Carl’s name? And who exactly is he? Carl stood up, he was always used to obeying orders. “So, you ARE the prophecy after all, Freezer will be pleased. As you, no doubt, have guessed, I am the Grand Master of the Koori Batsu. And your new name shall be Ice, the one who shall destroy evil at it’s finest moment. Please don’t say you have no idea what we are talking about. We Koori Batsu members can be very violent. During your stay here, you will learn how to cast Ice spells, you will learn our secrets and you will follow the way of our clan and you will learn the limits of technology as well as people. You will be trained in a harsh manner and will receive absolutely no mercy from your opponent or trainer, and you are not expected to give mercy either. Do I make myself clear?” Carl had no idea what this man was talking about, but this was the Koori Batsu Grand Master, if his clan was bad, this guy would be the worst. Without hesitation, Carl had decided to play along and nodded his head in agreement. “Good. Your training starts tomorrow so I suggest that you get yourself some rest, tomorrow, I will expect you to be in uniform, you may go now.” Go? Go where? There was no way in or out of the room. Carl was having these thoughts when he heard a strange sound behind him. He turned around and saw an opening in the wall and walked through it. Once he reached the other side, the opening sealed itself behind him leaving him even more confused than when he had first crossed paths with the Grand Master. There were two Koori Batsu members standing outside. They both were looking at Carl seriously when one of them introduced themselves, “I am Freezer and this is Cryogen. We are the ones who found you.” He continued on after the introduction, “Pardon us, but we couldn't’t help overhearing, it seems that the Grandmaster has seen you as the prophecy. We expect you to know what that is by now. Anyway, we are here to escort you to your living quarters while you stay and train with us here. Right this way sir.” Freezer pointed in the gap between Cryogen and himself, at the other end was a small house made completely out of ice. Carl slowly approached it, afraid that his new house was going to melt, plus Carl had never been on his own before, he was only 10 years old after all and not much of a fighter. Carl entered the house, amazed at the fact that it looked entirely different on the inside; the place had regular furniture, the room wasn’t even cold. Carl looked into the closet and saw that there were many outfits in there, all the same one and they just appeared to be exactly his size. The Koori Batsu were no doubt ruthless, but they were very hospitable. Carl took off all of his cloths and lay down on the bed. He was wondering what the next day had in store for him when he sudenly closed his eyes and fell asleep instantly.
