I never did get that phrase. The people I consider my enemies are so much so that I could never trust them or keep them close. Though I don't have hardly any, in general. At least you know where they stand I guess.

I know, it's a bizarre statement:
Hey..you're my enemy, I don't trust you, but, why don't you come over for dinner? We're having steak.
😑
If I had enemies, I think I'd want them as far away from me as possible.

I always assumed it was meant to keep an eye on them. 😕
If you're important enough to have enemies THAT big, then you can HIRE people to watch over them. ✅

I always thought that you'd have to watch over your friends closer than your enemies, if only because you know that your enemies ARE your enemies. Being a friend is the greatest disguise known to humankind, for if you earn someone's trust you can break them into pieces if it's your intention.
Shitty saying though.

I guess it all comes down to trust, doesn't it? You don't trust your enemies, but, if you become friends with someone, trust is important.
Are friendship and trust exclusive, or can you have a friendship without trust?

It depends on how you define friendship. I have maybe three or four real friendships right now. The rest are just acquaintances, I don't feel as though I'm a part of anything.
Some of those said acquaintances are cool but I'd never trust them as far as I could throw them.

It's hard to really define friendship for me. There are various levels I suppose.
I have ONE friend whom I would say that I trust implicity. He's proven time and again that he is worthy of it, but the rest, I enjoy spending time with them, but, I wouldn't trust them with anything that was really important to me.
