I never did get that phrase. The people I consider my enemies are so much so that I could never trust them or keep them close. Though I don't have hardly any, in general.At least you know where they stand I guess.

I see countless of interpretations to it.
Such as knowing what they're up to.. Being nice to them to make sure they have a harder time attacking you.. Needing enemies is somehow understandable too, what would life be without challenges! Your insight would never grow if everyone always agreed with you, unless you would be very disciplined to not get lazy and think you know everything.
I've always had enemies who were friends with me though.. Guy's who feel threatened and wait for every opportunity to make me look like an idiot if they think I slip up. And in the meanwhile acting like sociable people.
It's very annoying yet pretty interesting actually.
