yo lana, can is et up a kind of 'best of the best' type sig tournament? Everyone who wants to puts up what they think is their best work to date, then some selected judges and i choose which is the best. I think this would be a good idea because it gives people a chance to show of their favourite pieces. What do you say?

We could possibly do something like that in the future, yes.

Which reminds me, actually, it's about time for the next Signature Contest. For which I will need a couple of judges. Judges can't enter, however.

Is that the one where everyone puts and an entry and Judges choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each catergory?

Yep.

And since there's only going to be a couple judges other than myself, please understand that I tend to be picky with deciding who else should judge.

If anyone needs a judge for a duel just PM me.

Who needs seperation of powers anyway?

Can we add stocks to the duel criteria instead of just renders?

Its been done in the past.

One of the reasons I might want to judge is to mix up the competitions a bit, assuming I'd have a say.

In standard duels? It says in the rules only renders.

I don't think Lana will have a cow if the duel is between two capable people.

Yes, there have been duels in the past using stock instead of renders; we've also had duels where instead of an image supplied, there was simply a theme (similar to how we do first-round tourney matches). But for the most part, simply to keep things simple, it's renders.

{EDIT - before Lana slipped in} - I've done stock image duels before. As a judge, as long as you don't require anyone to do something thats out of the capabilities of a basic grapics program, its cool. (i.e. can't require animation or transparency)

I wish people did more stock duels.

Renders get overused.

I wouldn't pull a stock image on anyone, but for an intermediate/advanced/epic duel, I say its totally legit.

I think most people are afraid to work with stock and actual images as opposed to renders, because most people will take a look at a stock image and think "what can I do but slap some text on?" But there's a hell of a lot you can do with stock, and in some ways it can be more flexible than just a render.

But being primarily a photomanipulator, I work with stocks almost exclusively and am thus definitely biased towards them. Give me a couple stock photos and some textures and I can make a completely original piece of art.

I love stock images over renders.
