I LOVE STOCKS!!!

does anyone know where to get good stocks?

EDIT

Check the resources thread in the Sig Forum, there's a list of good stock sites in there.

I use sxc.hu the most, myself.

99% of what people on gfx sites label as stock images are not, in fact, stock.

I think most people are afraid to work with stock and actual images as opposed to renders, because most people will take a look at a stock image and think "what can I do but slap some text on?" But there's a hell of a lot you can do with stock, and in some ways it can be more flexible than just a render.

But being primarily a photomanipulator, I work with stocks almost exclusively and am thus definitely biased towards them. Give me a couple stock photos and some textures and I can make a completely original piece of art.

I often even render my own stocks, keeping the whole image in a series of layers (likes hose 3D bokes where you look back through layers of paper). Its a great way to achieve some new depth.

Stocks are great. So many people use these rehashed and dry techniques on renders (myself included). Stocks force you to be more creative.

You can't just go out and use any old DA picture. 😐

😂

This is a good point, though. Most DA stocks are not allowed to be used off of DA.

Thats why there are many good stock image sites!!!

http://andrewkendall.com/ Heres a good stock site with tons of band photos.

If anyone has any more good sites pm me. 😄

Yep 😊 sxc.hu is my favorite. Morguefile and Imageafter are good, too.

I mostly use DA stock for finding models for my photomanips. Really can't beat that place for that purpose, unless you're willing to pay.

Those aren't stock, those are copyrighted photographs.

Something is not stock unless it is specifically labelled as such.

Oh. So would it be considered illigal to make a sig from them?

and also is there any stock sites that dont require registering and all that crap?

You'd need to get permission to use those images.

Imageafter and Morguefile don't require you to register; you have to register for SXC but it's free to sign up. Frankly it's worth doing so, SXC is probably the largest free stock site around.
