Fifa Germany 2006 - world cup thread

i dont think he cares though. he never thought he was going to the world cup anyway. i feel more sorry for defoe/bent/phillips

As great as I think he will become (I have a feeling, it may be wrong), it doesn't take a genius to see that he's there off the back of hype. Walcott hasn't proven anything at Premiership level and until he does, he's just a great prospect. Thankfully, he has proven that he has ability.

I don't feel so sorry for Defoe, he's a bit unreliable and greedy for my likings. Lennon, Wright-Phillips and Bent though, why they weren't there is confusing (not really).

both teams have been decent at the back...

although i might ever stick a tenner on it going to penalties after a 0-0 2 hours of boringness

France will not rely on defence, no way. Thuram and Abidal are far too easily exposed. I don't think Italy (now that they're in their stride) are boring at all. If you watch them, they play the ball out of defence constantly, rather than just gathering it in. Materazzi is an excellent passer of the ball, and both Grosso and (especially) Zambrotta are superb going forward. They've both scored in the last two games, and it was Grosso who won the ''penalty'' against Australia.

Add Pirlo, Camoranesi and Del Piero to the mix, and I'd say we've got a pretty damn near exciting Italian team on our hands. Of course, the pressure could always get to them and they could end up retreating into their shell, but then you see how much they want to win this, and how brilliantly they played against a German team that appeared unstoppable, and you wonder. I hope for a decent final, I really do.

My tournament dream team...

--------------------------Buffon---------------------

Lahm-------Cannavaro--------Marquez------Cole

-----------------------Gattuso----------------------

---------------Zidane----------Pirlo----------------

-------------------------Totti------------------------

---------------Henry-----------Klose---------------

As I can't edit my best eleven now, i'm gonna switch a defender!!!!

Rio is out, and Marquez is in, i'm shocked that not amny else have picked him to be honest

Can somebody please tell me, giving clear examples, what exactly Totti has done this tournament to warrant his selection in dream teams and the like?

I've watched all but one of Italy's games this tournament, and in EVERY game he's been on a sliding scale from average to actual liability. How anyone can pick him over Kaka or Riquelme is completely beyond me. He's done even less than Ronaldinho.

wow...we won the loosers final...boring game, weak Portuguese and now this redundant festivity, f.ucking hell, how pathetic to celebrate a third place...

who was the third runnner up in the last WC again? .........see what i mean...

i know yeh. klinsmann goes way over the top.

totti has done ok but there have been way better midfield players. frings, kaka, maniche, vieira, appiah etc

The biggest problem I have is Ayala over Marquez. No way!

Everything else seems to be somewhat on par but I can see some inclusions and omissions as debatable I suppose.

Congrats to zee Germans!

Germany, Turkey, Croatia, Sweden, Italy, Belgium and Poland. Losers' final winners from the last few years (from memory though, I may be wrong).

Not to mention that he wasn't 100% fit, coming back from a broken foot and all, I'd say he did quite well.

well there you go..he wasnt 100% fit, he did well i admit that but i think there was better players.

ayala had a great tournement. he was very solid as usual.

I disagree, it wasn't a boring game at all....pretty fun to watch ...but yeah...third place...who the hell cares.

I'd rather have a manager who actually looks like he's getting into it, as opposed to Sven who doesn't give a shit.

The only exceptions are Mourinho and Wenger.

'I am number 1! 2 is not a winner and 3 nobody remembers..eh' - Nelly

Maybe true, Riz, maybe true, but Nelly also did that song with Kelly Rowland, Dilemma, candidate for worst song ever. So maybe he should shut his mouth, haha.
