Marriage is a legal contract between two people and the government. The day an animal or a child has both the cognitive ability and the maturity to enter into a legal contract, is they day we can address those relationships.
Hmm now I could very well be incorrect here it was my belief marriage is an institution recognized by the church that the govt also accepts. There are other ways to make the binding contract between 2 people outside the church.
Point is marriage is a religious institution and its within the religion to deny a marriage, its a private organization. However the govt should have other means to facilitate this union and make sure its recognized.

People get married by judge all the time. And it's actual marriage, not some version of a union.

Hmm I just took marriage as one of those religious pieces and civil unions if done outside the church same affect different names.
Kinda like the ole I am going to make a xerox copy, the brand has been attached to the task. I see thats the same with marriage at this point, thanks for the heads up though.

Well if that was the case it wouldn't be a problem (it's not that way), but the problem is that civil unions don't get the same advantages as a real marriage does..and that'S why it's unfair (even if it was equal...well..."seperate but equal" wasn't a good idea the first time, was it?).
Christinaty does not have monopoly on marriage.
People have entered into partnerships like that since before anyone had thought of churches.
BEEP! What does gay marriages have to do with people marrying kids and/or animals??
Well, time will pass. Not many decades ago, some people would yell and scream at the thought of interracial-marraiges, seeing it as the total decline of civilisation.
Some extremists fail to realise what CONSENT means I take it.
Mon Dieu....
I personally don't understand the big huff-huff over this movie.
I mean, is our society so f*cked that we have to watch a damned film to understand that our cultures are changing?
Personally, I don't need a movie to remind me that the love of two peoples of the same-sex is no different from that of a heterosexual relationship, because I don't care what other people do in the privacy of their homes.

I just saw this movie for the first time. I went to my room mates friends house, and she'd just bought it. I, personally, can't see teh signifigance of this movie. It's been touted as a gay anthem. As an inroad towards acceptance. But I don't see that element in this movie. Jake what's-his-name liked to take it up the ass. That's all it was. But, to consider this movie monumental is a dis-service to all gay people. To do so is to remove the human reality of the movie. It hasn't enlightened me to any situation that isn't real for any gay couple. It hasn't changed my view of gay people. It simply exists as another in a long line of gay movies. Sure, it doesn't fulfill all the stereotypes that so many movies do, but it hasn't changed the stereotype one bit. So many of my friends have said they openly wept during this movie, and maybe I'm an unfeeling bastard for not having done so. But this movie was nothing spectacular. In fact, there was an Alan Alda/Ellyn Burstin (that may not be how her name is spelled) movie titled "Same Time Next Year" that was basically this movie, only Brokeback Mountain had gay cowboys and in STNY, neither of them died at the end.
All the hoopla over this movie is nothing more than middle america patting itself on the back. We "love you", but we know you're not the same as us. And difference is bad.

No, you should kick yourselfi in the ass.....
I agreee with you, so little
50, million people are just as refromed,
Capt is right!
I found the movie very touching and I cried at the end, but that was because I HATE it when two people who love each other can’t have each other because of circumstances they can not control.
Was it a “gay” movie or a movie depicting how prejudices and bigotry can ruin a relationship between two people, when one of them is SO affected by the prejudices that he actually believes them to a certain extent?
It’s cool enough when movie-makers depict the challenges facing minorities, right? However, these movies also POINT at the minorities in question and can sometimes “victimize” them. On one hand society needs to deal with discrimination against women, ethnic groups, gays… read-heads(?), blonde women (?), people with glasses (?)… etc. etc. etc.
It’s a difficult road to walk. Statistics, for example, can be quite discriminating. As a woman I can read how women are often paid less or have poorer pension-plans than men. Poor women, right?? Victims of the male-discriminating system? Not as tough when it comes to pay-negotiations as men? Or do we just give up beforehand, knowing we are “victims”??
Children of immigrants can read in the statistics that they are less likely to get a job than white people, regardless of education. Poor people, right? Victims of a discriminating and slightly racist system? Or do they already give up beforehand, refuse to become “victims”, dress up in street-wear and annoy people on metro-trains and develop an attitude that won’t help them at an interview?
Rape-victims can read that they are more likely to suffer depressions, and have life-long sexual problems. How cool is that to read??
Wouldn’t it be better to read that FULL RECOVERY is possible and happens often?
We should STOP victimizing “minority groups” (which actually in itself is a useless term)!
