It is quite embarrassing isn't it? It's like they got the umpires off the street or something. There's been a ridiculous amount of poor calls so far.
They really do need to instant replay things. Think they're the only sport that doesn't right now.

They use it for HR's but that is it.
I think the best solution for baseball is to add a 5th umpire sitting up in the booth with access to multiple HD replays instantly. On plays where there is an obvious mistake (things like the double tag out at 3rd, tagging up early, a trap in the OF, fair/foul, NOT balls/strikes or very close plays like at 1st) he can simply buzz down or talk into the crew chiefs ear real quick and fix it. It would not slow down the game much at all.
