That is sort of true Rapscallion, however things are getting better.
The more we fight to protect the separation of Church and State, the more light is shed upon this situation.
MOST of the politicians who use religion as a way to sway the masses, KNOW what they are doing...they KNOW thier hypocrisy, etc. but they will not admit it.
The trick is to expose this.
The News questions the government all the time.
Separtation of Church and State is a fundamental aspect of the U.S. Consitution which conservative Christians and many like minded politicians loves to ignore.
The NEWS helps in the effort to expose corruption in politics and in the government in general.
That ability to QUESTION our government, to QUESTION tradition, and to question everything is SO AMERICAN and i love it !
United States certainly is not perfect, and our government is DEFINATELY FLAWED....as are ALL human governments.
However you must know that one of the foundations of United States of America is our RIGHT to fight for change and be free from traditional and religious oppression.
I know that many people, especially those in the red states, fail to recognize that, but that does NOT make it untrue.
WE HAVE THE RIGHT to fight back, AND in the event where our government is NOT serving the people properly, the people have the right to overthrow it (according to Constitution as well....ofcourse not the entire government, but for example impeach the president, rally against officials)
I know oppression still occurs, but so do triumphs over oppression.
Things will get much better, because more people are asking questions and not taking this bullshit ne longer.
If you take a strict constructionist viewpoint, those rights are not necessarily given.
Especially since the rise of miliatarism in the US at the start of the COld War, American policy has changed dramatically. A system has been enacted that maintians the cycle of power in the US. This arose as part of the Cold War. Now, without the "evil" Soviets to push agisnt us, America's power structure is top heavy and too concrete.
This si the source of many problems in the Bush administration. Bush is trying to recreate "terrorists" as the new Soviets. Its not working. All the increased executive powers given during the cold war (under false pretenses may I add) shoudl be taken away again.
I agree that you have a right to fight back, I do so publically. However, there is a very valid and currently predominat view that that right is not garunteed. I'm sure everyone says they support free spech, however, most peoples actions do not support that position. (like the people that rip signs away from protesters >>> See Rumsfeld speech.)
